I've got the plans and have talked both to Wendell and Bill Cunningham....Plane flew well in Bill's opinion with a A cubed 240.... But it is a HUGE project.Canopys and cowls are available... It is over engineered by todays standard..But I believe you could get her down to 50 lbs ..I was looking to use a ZDZ 210....Much lighter than a 3w 240... Hope you have a BIG woodpile.....I've also priced the short kit...About $700-800 to save yourself alot of cutting. UNLESS someone out there has one they want to sell

I had a 3W-275 in mind just for the fact that they have them out there.

Do you think it would be possible for a DA-200?

Does anyone know the specs on the DA-200 as far as lbs. of thrust for this big pig.

I wish you luck my friend. I am not saying it is not possible but by looking at the plans I think structural and strength wise I am going to go with the DA-200.

Let me know when you start bud.

It'll probably be a while for my build,,, I might cut the canopy to be a 300, instead of a 202, that, in and of itself would save significant weight,, I'm also going to change the construction significantly, and use foam cores, CF gear and tubes, etc.

Good luck on those core wings...That's going to be one big piece of foam.... I agree with the 200 / 300 style //single place....Or heck. Change the wing a make a MXS ... I'd like to see some pics of someone actually built one...That's a BIG airplane...Even makes a 3.3 YAK look small

Just by chance if there's someone out there following this Giles thread that's looking for one.....economy style, my first 40% + airplane was a Pirate Giles (43%) I flew it on one of Dave Johnson's first round of prototype 150's and this was a GREAT airplane with little to no mixing required. I flew it for a couple of years and had a wing come off of it on take off. I flat spun it in. It did "some" damage but is VERY fixable. I just got into building other things and never got around to fixing it. It would take about a day of repairs and it would be ready to go. I've kept it all these years thinking I'd get around to it but reality has set in that the likelyhood is slim.

Here's the bottom line. I'm willing to GIVE this to someone who's interested in repairing it. I also have a new cowl for it. I don't want to ship it but it's yours if you can get it and are interested.

Nah, I can barely store the 35% that I'm workin on,,,, Hopefully in the near future, but I'm going to have to have a house and a trailer first,,,

I wish I could take that 40% offer, but I'm maxed out on space and I'm hoping to get orders soon.

My dad built the 35% Giles from Hostettler plans and the design is VERY Stodgy....lots of ply where balsa would do...wing attachment is archaic...I would sell mine with the Spehar 4.6 twin for 800.00...Has some Hitech servos and comes allready covered with servos installed...just needs some finishing...its about 90% done...The 4.6 should give ballistic performance as the 35% Giles is nearer a 30% sized airframe...MIke S
