I have a DA-100 & a 3W-106CS... The 3W puts out more power, period...

If your AUW is going to come in under 28 lbs, the DA will work fine... If you're over that weight and want/need a little more umph, go with the 3W... They are about the same price...

Well, the plan has changed. I'm going to build one of the Aerotech QB kits. They do the wings and stabs for you so all you need to do is the fuse. This is more of what I'm looking for and I'm probably going to get a 3W 106 Cactus Series. I may still get the Competition Series though, but another guy told me his Cactus Series would out turn his Competition Series.

Well, it's a nice plane, but the Aerotech is cheaper. Plus I want to get into building big kits and this allows me to try it.

I think you would be happier with the DR, you shouldn't even expect to get any building experience out of a Quick Build. They are called that because all you have to do is bolt them together. But, whatever you choose, good luck and enjoy!

I think he means the Aerotech kits, not the Aeroworks QB Arfs. Aerotechs QB kits have wings and stabs sheeted, and you have to build the fuse.

Yeah, Aerotech, not Aeroworks. I get to do my own scheme and everything which is what I really want. Going to even try Monokoting it.

I own 2 aerotech kits........they tend to come out slighlty tail heavy so build the tail light.

I use the 3W on my 35% Edge and it weighs around 30lb with smoke. Plenty of vertical.

Ben,
Deciding to build something is a great idea. I will be more rewarding to you in the end. You will be able to go out to the field with a little more pride than the other guy for sure. My personal choice for the engine would be a DA 100. Very strong proven engine that you will get help with if needed. I have one that is 5 years old that is stronger than the day it came out of the box. I have used there service due to crash damage and it is top notch. They want you to keep there stuff flying for sure. One thing you really need to look at with the BME. Most if not all of the 35%ers out there are designed around a DA100/3W 106. You will have to mount ALL of the equipment in the cowl to balance that weight out. That can be a PINTA. This will bring up a bunch of stir but use Tuned Pipes or cans. Stock mufflers are loud and are going to kill this hobby. I like MTW cans because they drop in most airframes with ease. You dont want to be part of the problem. Be part of the solution!

I decided to build a Dalton Aviation 35% Extra 260. You can see some of my build pics in a thread called "Coming: Dalton 35% Extra 260 Build." I've pretty much decided on a BME 115 on ES Composites tuned pipes and I'll have to do the rudder on pull-pull to get this to work.

my opinion is somewhat biased because zdz is "it" at my field. i think a zdz 80 would be a good motor for this plane. puts out almost as much hp as the 100's but is lighter. rcshowcase (distributor) also has customer service that is second to may be DA. in fact it may be just as good as DA's. rcshowcase.com
