Default MiG anyone?

Bet'yer are wondering what those five pics under the "New Stuff in The Media Gallery" header are all about.

Those are pics I took this morning of a bunch of MiG 27's, 29's and one 17 that are located in our bone yard here on Camp Anaconda (Balad Airbase) Iraq. Those are part of the former Iraqi regime, and I bet the last time they flew were 1990. They are beat up pretty bad, some have bullett holes in them and they are all just trashed.

I just wanted to share them with my friends.

Jon

Yo Jon,,
Thanks first of all for your service.Your family must miss you like crazy, but I'm sure are very proud. Nice shot of the Migs! Don't see those every day! So are you able to fly at all? Forgive me if it's a stupid question, just curious. We've spoken with some folks who can. Guess it boils down to location and MOS. Stay safe guy!! Biff

Jon,

My nephew was in Somalia for a stint and showed some photos of some old MIGS left to rot. In that case they had not removed or disabled the seats in them and he had a shot of the hole in the roof where someone hauled on the holly dooley cord and it launched him. Fatally of course.

Nice shots and for sure some collector one day will buy em up and some will likely see sky again.

Take care mate.

Jon,

That's some cool stuff! Just last week, I got to see a MIG 17 do some taxi tests. The fellow in the hangar next to the one I'm working in has been restoring a MIG 17 for the past several years. Just this past week he and his cohort took the plane out for some taxi tests. They have a unique sound to them! Next time he gets it out, I'll try to get some pictures! And make America proud!

Hey!!!
One of those Mig's was tagged by Biff!!!! See the red tailed 27 it says BIFFMAN across the vert stab!!!

Jonathan, thanks a bunch for your service. I was in theater in 90-91 and know what a huge sacrifice you and your family have too endure while you are gone. Take care and get back safely.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I do miss being home, and I cannot wait to go flying something bigger and fuel powered. I do have some electrics here with me; a HL Yak foamy (2), a FoMoJo that one of my ProBro buddies sent me, a Pitts Foamy another PB sent, a Mini Ultra Stick, and I had a Blade CP heli (just traded it off for a E-Flite Edge that is getting sent home). I have been able to fly, but the wind and heat are both getting higher on a daily basis. The wind is hot. Real hot. Like sticking a blow drier in your face hot and always 10-12 knots. Not real friendly to foamy's. I attempted to fly the MUS one night before it got hot and while I was pre-flighting it we had an indirect fire attack and the defensive countermeasures went off (they call it C-Ram, it is like the Falinx (sp?) system on Navy ships...way cool...to shoot down incoming mortars. Someone did not want me to fly that night. Ain't tried since. I just stayed around my hooch and flew the heli.

Anyway, we'll be coming home soon, so I gotta pack all this stuff up and get it ready to ship out in about a month. We'll be home in October .

Biffy, I heard you did not make it to the Cursade for Children show in Louisville this year. I think the last time I saw you was when I handed you a bag full of "Army" neck straps to give out to the kids a couple years ago. Have I mentioned I want to come home????

Take care my friends!

Jon
