Default MT 70 twin, smooth, light powerful 50cc upgrade

I ordered one of these after reading the posts on RCU. It's spinning a Zoar laminated 23X8 @ 6700 rpm and weights 3.26 lbs. Boot to boot measurement of 270mm on the straight plug version and 245mm on the angle plug version.

http://www.mtenginesusa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MT70

It does run smoother than the DL 50cc single saving my airframe and servos. With only a 2 oz increase in weight over most 50cc engines and a cost of less than $500.00 it should be an easy swop.

MT should be nice...have seen some videos with pilot-rc ariplanes and looks good. Also Tony offers then so should be something to trust.

That does look interesting. If it makes enough power over a DA / DL 50 to justify the added weight I might give one a shot on my TOC Extra if it will fit in the cowl.

3.26 lbs. is not bad at all for a 70 twin, i haven't seen any real world rpm's on it yet, just the manufactor number of 7000.

Hi,

there is a older 3w 70 cc twin which is a great running engine. Weight is 2.95 lbs and hp is around 6. I have 3 and I use them for a 50 cc replacement in planes. They are great. If you watch, these engines are also sold in the web market place.

they also have 3W quality, not chinese quality.

I sold mine. Ran sweet but weighed more like 6lbs. Put out slightly more than a modern 50cc.

Hoping to get the angled plug version stuffed into my GP 27% Extra. Whole lotta motor, in a little plane. Target weight is still 16.5. If i can do this will be an animal.

Guys.....after talking to Jody over at Valley view just a couple days ago.....you may want to pick your airframe carefully.....because it may not fit! In a bigger 30% ( 50cc bird) it will.....something like a 3DHS AJ Slick...but not in something like a TOC , Pilot RC , aeroworks and so forth 30% bird....the cowls are to small.

You could have the top of the spark plug boot stick out a little if you didn't mind....and i'm with you....I think it's a great little motor! I wouldn't mind trying one myself.

I haven't ran a 24" prop yet on my BME 58 , but it'll turn a Vess 23A at 7440 and a Vess 23B at 7200. I think this new little 70cc twin may be right on par with my 58 , or maybe a slight bit stronger. BUT....it's really cool it's a twin.

wish more companies would make these smaller twins as well.

i don't think the mt70 is going to out spin the bme58 from some of the numbers i have seen.i also get in the 7400 range with the bme58 i have with the vess 23-a a.i haven't seen any numbers close to this with the mt70,only in the 7000 range with the vess 23-a.i seen the manufactor of the mt70 saying 7000 on a 24" prop, that yet remains to be seen.
but who knows, only time will tell.
