Picked up a 3 meter Extra in all white from Andy Kane almost two years ago. Got distracted with other planes but finally finished getting the paint on it this weekend. I reduced the size of the counterbalance and finished/painted it so you can't tell it's not stock.
Spies Hecker paint with clearcoat. Didn't weigh it before and after so I don't know how much weight it added. I tried to keep most of the paint in the front half of the plane. Will put a ZDZ Super 160/JMB mufflers in. Will add graphics and should have it in the air- hopefully by the end of the month (have some vacation planned this month that will keep me out of the shop). Thanks guys- I had a friend who paints cars shoot it for me. The darker color looks black in the pictures but is actually a kind of dark grey with metalflake- it looks really nice up close.
I will be dying the canopy a gray color as well so it should accent it nicely. Dave |

That looks really nice. Much better than any of the "stock" comp arf schemes.

it looks good! I have to agree that custom one-off paint schemes are better than the factory ones, but they do take a while to paint. it took me and my painter friend almost a month to paint mine.

Dave you scurvy dog, that's a knock out! My favorite schemes are simple but make a strong statement. You nailed that one. I always ask my self while laying a scheme out, would you have it on a full scale? OH YES MY FRIEND!! Love it!

Hey Dave,
That thing looks fantastic! Looks as though the move is delayed for a while . . . so Triple Tree is a go, as well as any other contests I can get to. Lets try to get together and do some flying . . , maybe we can convince Leyland to join us. Give me a shout . . . t |

Ty- Awesome to hear! Well, sorry to hear your move is delayed but selfishly glad that you are here for a while and will be a go for Triple Tree.
I am out of the country for a week starting Thursday 15th. Back on Wednesday the 21st. Going to LVRCS IMAC for the weekend- then I'll be focusing on getting the new birds in the air and some serious practice for Triple Tree between then and the contest. After I get back in the country- let's set some dates to practice. Jon and I have made tentative plans to get together during the week. If he is still free during the week he'll be coming down to my place to stay over sometimes- don't know how that works for you. If not, we'll practice on the weekends. Dave |
