Hello all! Another Florida (Gainesville) newbie. I was at Ocala's Flying Model Club flying site Saturday and watched some great flying. One pilot was very skilled and was flying a Dalton Aviation 42% Extra. I'm sorry I didn't catch his name, but I'm sure he was getting his freestyle routine together for a competition! The other pilot was a 12 year old (i'm guessing) who was also flying a large scale Extra (Aeroworks I think).
I'm definitely joining Ocala's club next month or so, and I will also be in Tuscon late October to see the "Shootout". I'm hooked, dead meat, looking at convincing a wife to finance another obsession.... Right now, my experience is in electric foamies. I'd love to build, but the workspace is too limited. I'll need losts of help in the future with numerous questions. Hinging big flying surfaces, sealing gaps to prevent flutter; all of this seems new to me. I'm glad I found this spot. Welcome to the site Tom. Any help you need, just ask. The members here are a great source of information and always glad to help.
This bug can be vary addicting, so be warned.....once you get started you will want to get out and fly every chance you get. The best part of the hobby is the people that you meet. Even at the larger events that I have attended, it is like a family reunion. The members here are great people, with a fun sense of humor. Good natured joking goes on quite a bit. So here you have it all, flying models, information, videos, photos, instruction, new product information, even a chat room, all wrapped up with a sense of family and humor. Now, that's just good entertainment. Glad to have you as part of the Flying Giants family. PS...It's good to have a clinical psychologist as a member, you never know when we might need one. LOL

Welcome Tom!! Looks like we have a bunch in common, Dutch, live in the South and HOOKED on airplanes!! Glad to hear you'll be in Tucson! We'll be there in force. Great contest with friendly people every where you turn. Starting with foamies is a great place to start. Flying the big one's will be SO much easier than foam. They'll spoil you rotten. Glad to have you as a member of the Giants. Post all your questions. We're big on helping a brother get through the learning curve. Welcome and enjoy!! Biff

I'm a little worried about Sandbag's avatar, and what it says about his total adapatation.
