Hey there guys.
All I need is a simple answer here. I need a new radio system as my Multiplex GoldCombi series is now a little too old. I am off to Dubai in a few days and I need a system to fly my Cap 232, a Hirobo Eagle II and in the near future some form of delta wing plane. My sights are currently set on the Hitec Optic 6 or the JR 2610 or the Futaba 6 series. Some honest opinion welcome here. Thanks guys! |

Guys PLEASE don't let this turn into a brand war thread.
Futaba, JR and Airtronix, Multiplex, HITEC, ALL WORK.... I have seen every brand of radio work flawlessly. If there is a problem 99% of the time it can be traced to used error. So please state why you like your brand of radio due to features ect, but DO NOT LET THIS TURN INTO Brand A is great Brand B sucks.... or this thread will be closed! Keep it to facts only... and useful information for this guy. . . . . Now that being said. I fly the Futaba 9C. Reson being, for the money it has a slew of great features. In fact more than I can currently use. I like the feel of the radio as well. Good luck!

Hi SleepyC
I dont want a brand war here either, let me clarify... Between the above mentioned radio systems, there is not much between them in terms of features, I just want to get an idea of what seems to be the most used and trusted. At the end of the day, it has to keep my planes in the air and not fly into someone due to a silly radio glitch that is known to happen on certain radio systems. I just want a heads up. Its not a brand name thing really, just quality for what you pay. Thx. |

You have loyalists for each major brand, and of course they think thier radio is the BEST. So you will never get a straight answer. Proving that a plane went down due to a radio glitch is like proving that the lock ness monster exists. Basically all 3 major radio brands WORK, and WORK well. Usually a claim of a "glitch" results from improper radio installation. In this situation, you probably have already made up your mind, but do not know it yet. I can say that for some reason, people usually associate themselfs with a brand and get pretty die hard behind it. As Biff would say... there are Pro's at the TOP level of all kinds of R/C competition flying all the major brands, YOU KNOW they wouldn't risk their career by flying a radio that didn't work properly, or even have a small chance of failure. So again the choices come down to, 1) which one appeals to you ( your gut feeling) 2) Which one has the features you like 3) which one has the price you like THANKS.

futaba 9c - i have used one for three years or since it came out - it has great value and features that you need to fly modern planes - the other brands are probably just as good but my 9c is the best bang per buck as you say!!! i have a new 12z but for everyday use and value your can go with the 9c - features not brand for sure as i also have Jr and Hi tec radios and they still work fine - radios are today also a fassion thing just like our planes as you know!!

Good post... they all work Great.... while it may not work for you, what I suggest for people is to see what the most people use at their field... (again a bit hard your your situation) not to see what is better, but to see if they can get help if there is an issue....ie: someone at your field knows the programming or whatever Me?? I'm a 9C kinda guy

It will fly!!!

I will add my 2 cents worth. Here is a nickles worth of free advice. If you can afford it, go with at least a 9 channel radio. Not because you will use all the channels right away, but because of the mixing capabilities.
The best advice I have heard about choosing the right radio for you. Go to a hobby shop that has the different radios that you are interested in. Hold each radio and work the sticks. Buy the one that feels best in your hands. As for brands, as SleepyC said they are all good radios. You will find many people with strong loyalties to each brand. I personally fly with a Futaba 7c. I bought it because that is the brand that I started with years ago. It was easier to stay with the same brand than Buy new receivers to go with a new radio. I like the 7c, it was the best that I could afford when I bought it. I am looking at moving up to the 9c or 12z later this year because I have out grown the 7c. But again, all the major brands are great radios. Get the one that you can afford, like the feel of and, if possible some of the people you know use so that you will have some help with the programming.
