Default American Turf Flyers Pattern Shootout

A great contest took place last weekend in Broken Arrow, OK involving pilots from the Houston area, Kansas, and Arkansas to Oklahoma locals. We had somewhere around 25 pilots battling it out in heavy winds and still managed to pull off an incredible time and get some great flying in. We're putting this one on our calendar for next year. This was Steve Ford's first contest and I just want to extend a huge THANK YOU to him and all the American Turf Flyer club members for pulling off a hugely successful event. Club members helped scribe, something that usually isn't available at a local contest, and the scoring system was AWESOME! We had score sheets with our names already printed on them, the score sheets were processed really fast (anyone there can atest to that), and they even handed you your score sheets when they were done with them. A real tight operation that really added something special. Everyone is always anxiuos to get their scores ASAP (at least I am) and these guys made sure it happened. Also, Despite a few engine problem, everyone came home with an airplane in one piece. What more can you ask for? We had to drive 8 hours to get there but man was it worth it.

Here are the results:

Sportsman
1 - Forrest Wilhite (4000)
2 - Russ Rhodes (3310)

Intermediate
1 - Doug Bennett (3971)
2 - George Ashley (3923)
3 - Bob Hesskamp (3804)
4 - Tim Tipton (3626)

Advanced
1 - Mike Howard (3992)
2 - Jeff Buchner (3935)
3 - Steve Ford (3911)
4 - Ken Kaut (3810)

Masters
1 - Lance Van Nostrand (3983)
2 - Don Ramsey (3980)
3 - Brian Young (3917)
4 - Joe Dunnaway (3903)
5 - Chris White (3804)
6 - Todd Schmidt (3721)
7 - Vincente Bortone (3632)
8 - David Harmon (2489)

FAI
1 - Brett Wickizer (4000)
2 - Mike Harrison (3944)
3 - Bill Cunningham (3903)
4 - Dan Curtis (3705)
5 - Art Wagner (3436)

I'll get some pictures up shortly.

More

1 - Plane being carried out to the flightline by a caller (sorry, don't recognize the face)
2 - Good friend Roddy Ory made a trip out. He just recently moved to OKC from New Orleans and hasn't been able to fly at a contest this season but came to hang out. Was great to see him!
3 - Chris White whispers Art Wagner's score to his scribe and father, Vernon White.

Good stuff Brett,

It looks like a nice facility.

You guys had some very recognizable names at that contest, fun for all, I'm sure.

Thanks for the report.

Congrats Brett on taking 1st in FAI. This same club (I'm pretty sure but not 100%) is hosting an IMAC contest in Tulsa next month that I am considering going to. How do you think that drive would be pulling a trailor? Dean

Hey Dean,

The drive is freeway basically the entire way. It's a good eight hours but it's easy driving. I'd say go for it. Awesome flying site and facility. BTW, saw you won at Abilene, good job! Looks like you're really makin some progress. Being able to drive now is pretty convenient so don't hesitate to give me a call and we can try to setup a time to go fly. School is out and I've got a lot of free time

Thanks for all the kind comments. Hope to see you at the nats Ryan (you're going right?)
