We are changing all of our radio equipment in all of our aircraft to JR 10X Synthesized PCM TX/RX from Futaba 9C PCM TX/RX. The first aircraft we are changing over is a 34% CA Kit. It has no power box or isolator. Servos are powered directly from the RX.
My question is, will the servos still be centered and matched (as some are on Y-Harnesses and as these are all digital Hi Tech servos) or will I need to take all the servos loose from the Pro Links and start over on matching them? I figure different electronic equipment may cause the servos to center at a different position and/or could cause some to pull against each other and possibly even be damaged. I matched all of these servos by mechanical means and not by any sort of programmer. I would like to think I could just swap the RX and reprogram without going through all the servos and linkages again but thought maybe someone else may have been through this already. Thanks! Tom |

Tom, disconnect a rudder servo from the system, as well as 1 Ail servo each panel. Should match up just fine. Might have to re-prog. the servo going from 1 Tx to another. Or re set your mechanical matching.... Then go from there. If I can be any more help, let me know!!!

Personally......I'd unhook all the servos. It would be nice to think you could just swap in a new radio, but if for some reason its not lined up you could really over drive a servo.....15mins of work or $100 or more in repairs.......your pick

I would un hook all the servos,
I mean you'll have to re set your ATV and such, but a pair of matched servos running off a "Y" cord would still be matched. If they are machinically matched, they are basically 1 servo, so the center may have to be adjusted in the radio but if its off, both should be off together. Not saying you shouldn't be safe, it may be as easy as un screwing the arms and making sure that the servos move together. then popping your arms back on. my 2 cents.

Well, I have done this on a number of aircraft, to no surprise it is never 100% prefect. Their are a lot of factors that can cause binding in the servos, just cause its apples to apples does not mean they grew from the same tree, ok your going what does that mean. Ok, first the linkage must be the same for both servos, in other words if the geometry is off one bit then they are going to fight each other all the way through the travel. With my past trial and error, I have found the High-Techs to not be up to par in centering anyway, so trying to match the travel was not easy, even with the High-Tech programer. The use of Y-harnes is something that I have found very helpful, only in the wings though, I have used match boxs for the elevator, but didn't like the results that I got. I fly with the 10X also, it has a function that allowes for you to set it up for two elevator servos, great help and it wipes out the need for the match box and it's just on less thing to worrie about going wrong. I have in the past always done what Chris is saying to do, just disconect the opposing servo on either side and then gone from their! But with out LOTS of pratice it trully can be one of those things, hopefully this thred will help you in your venture to changing radios out, good luck!!!!!
Oh, one more thing a Futaba match box will NOT work with a JR rec. Had one and got rid of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!P.S. Glad to see that you are coming over to the good stuff JR(just right)!!!!

dude..
Hitecs center just as well as JR... Both are proven servos. Same with the radios, Futaba and JR are both proven. Watch the brand comments... its just a futile coment that will cause drama and ruin a positive and informative thread.

Yo, He never said any one was better then the other, just what he has experienced. There was a article out in one of the Mags. Comparing Three servo brands, JR, Hi-Tec, Futaba. They took each company's top servos and did a centering test. They took a 3in piece of rod and attached it to the control horn, With a gage they took each servo and checked for accuracy in centering and consistency, To much of my surprise Hi-Tec came in last. This does not mean that its not a good servo, just that it did not center as accurate for them. Most people will never even notice it.
As for the answer to your question about them being the same. Most likely not, its hard to even get two of the same brands to match.. Please keep in mind this is just what I have experienced. I fly Jr TX and futaba servos. I prefer JR servos due to torque and speed but futaba has the better bang for your buck! Good luck with your bird. Chris |

Well, my goal was only to inform the member of my past with that hardware!!!!! Never to BASH another brand, and I would like all of you to know that I fly with all brands under the sun, and I'm not going to say it if its not true. So with that said, we must remember that no matter who is posting, the originator should know that its that person's opinion and only that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
