I've heard many different things about throttle setups on gas planes. Use digital, use analog, use metal gears, don't use metal gears, high speed, high torque, standard, long arm, short linkage, the list goes on and on. Does anyone know the facts on this matter? Any suggestions, pics would be helpful.

I like digital, it makes your throttle more precise.
Plastic gears can wear from the vibration, so i use metal gears. I use high speed, i like the fast response since i do lots of 3D. I don't care how the linkage is as long as it fits and it's pretty straight on. Long arm or shor arm doesn't matter, as long as they are pretty close to the same, to get maximum resolution. the ATV on my throttle servo is something like 128/110 I hope i've helped.. someone jump in here if i've started something wrong. |

I recommend nylon and or Karbonite geared servos for throttle. Precision, speed and accuracy are paramount consideration IMO. Coreless digital are my choice, we use Hitec’s Karbonite geared HS-6965 in all our models.
Metal geared servos are prone to premature gear wear IMO and are most definitely NOT required for GS applications. As far as linkage geometry goes, best case setup uses the servos MAX travel arc together with approximately 80 degrees rotation of the carbs throttle shaft. Typically a ¾” servo arm together with a 1-¼” control arm on the carb works well. |

Is a mini servo on throttle a No-No? I've got a HS-81 for servo right now

I think it's too small, and won't last long . Vibration never sleeps in these gas engines. Don't take a chance with a cheap servo of any kind.

Do the analog or digitals hold up better with the vibration?

I have both and both seem to live as long. That 81 will die someday due to vibration. As for the servo, I like a good hitec 645 and I do NOT use a complete metal linkage and metal arms...I always put something nylon in there.
PS- let's go fly sometime!! Neighbor

,Karbonite gears? I don't know much about them. Do they hold up better then metal?
