Default Resurrection of the YAK

As some of you know CBK07 lost a YAK at Joe Nall due to a receiver crystal coming loose. And with the stead-fast hands of the TANK the plane survived with minimal damage. Well Long story short Craig gave it to me (after removing all of the goodies of course) and I thought I'd share the rebuilding experience with you all.
I started on the fuse which Craig had already started fixing. I stripped all of the covering from the turtle deck forward. There was some damage inside and on the area the wing fits into as well as the top where the canopy bolts down onto. When doing repairs of this nature it is very important to inspect every joint and surface.

One wing made contact with the ground and crushed the end rib and the wing tip. I removed the bottom covering on both wings to do an inspection of all the ribs and sheeting. You can see the new block glued into place in one of the pics. I had to create a section for the inside of the fuse on the left side where the wing rests and a new end rib for the left wing.
Now that all of the gluing in done. I've decided I don't like Blue on the bottom the wing, it comes with navy blue on the bottom from the factory. So I changed it up a bit.
More to come. Time for sleep.

I'm out this weekend. Have to go to a wedding at 10 am in Saturday and father's day lunch on Sunday then a get together at my sisters. I hear the hill is flyable but they removed the grass where we normally fly so we need to move to the northend of the south field;-)
The parking lot is flooded so we're still parking on the road. The river is dropping so next week/weekend it should be a lot better.

Looking good Jim! I like the new scheme. I miss the old girl....glad someone else will get to enjoy her for a while. Have a good weekend. Craig

P.S. Bob and I ended up joining Farmington. The field is in good shape and the corn isn't tall enough to bother anyone yet. Seems like a nice bunch of guys with a good attitude

Hey everybody. I am still in Alabama. My Mom is finishing up her radiation Monday and things will be a lot easier on the family members here and I can return home. I am on my way back home Early Tuesday morning so I should be home late Tuesday night. I will miss our building night again Jim, Tank, Ed! But I will be ready to go flying hopefully the next weekend! I'll try to call because I need to come by and get my Plane or get you to charge it up for me one last time before I bring it home next weekend since I have a trailer now! Maybe we can trim out the Bird Dog for fun too next weekend!

I heard I am an official member at Woodstock! Now if only I could have enough gas to get there and back I will be in good shape! LOL! It was funny how I became a member but I guess I was meant to be a member!

Too bad about them taking the grass up. I agree Jim. Even better, maybe we can go to the North End of the Hill and fly where first used too for the rest of the season at the Hill. I like that area better anyway don't you? Hopefully John will take care of that for us!

Ok guys I miss flying and seeing you all. See you in a few days.

David

Well I finally got the Seiko servo! Man the sucker is big! Seen many in 'planes but never held one. So I got that in the servo bay and now I'm gonna finish her up.
Here's a pic of the servo in place and the fuse.
