I was told by a guy at my field that I could use a Hitec synthesized RF module in a Futaba 9C because they were both negitive shift and basically the same module. True or not ?

True, but i don't think you're legal with the FCC when you do that.

I know someone who has been doing it for years. No problems that I know of.

I was told the same many times and actually fitted one to my 8UAP.
It worked, nothing seemed out of tune until oneday I lost the plane. It just locked out and went in. The RF module was red hot to touch and that had never happened before. Then I was told you need to cut the center pin on the radio off as that causes problems. If I had done that I was told all would be OK. Well I have now figured its a way lot cheaper and SAFER to use whats designed for your actual radio set. There's always going to be success stories but try betting your life or the life of others on doing those sorts of things and see if you can make value of it. What do you really save, $90, $150 at most. What do you stand to loose. Plenty more than that. To me it is just not worth the risk anymore. Kiwi |
