Hallo
I need some good advice. I've got an 27% extra 260 of hangar 9. Wing Span 78 in. Engine is MVVS 45 (same as Evolution 45). It's my first gaser. Actually I was going to install an electronic switch für ignition (kill switch). I found the idea of swiching the engine off by radio quite nice. But a friend told me because of radio problems not to do so and manage it by the trimmer of the throttle I wonder what you guys are used to? Tom |

Hi Tom, In my opinion all gas engines should be equipped with electronic kill switches. I have four gas planes and all have one installed.
This is one feature I personally think all gas plane owners should install. They are relatively inexpensive and a great safety feature. As far as only having one on your trim, what if the engine vibrates loose and killing it with the trim is not an option,...........Theres just to many reasons why a kill switch is a good idea for your gas planes..................G/L Chuck |

I agree, install an Optic Kill Switch in you gasser. Here in Norway almost everyone are using them in gassers.

With my first gasser I just killed it with the throttle trim. Now that I have a bigger gasser I went to using the Smart Fly FO kill switch. I feel very comfortable being able to kill the engine INSTANTLY. With the trim it would take longer to get it to die. Those two or three seconds might make the difference between someone getting hurt or not. Plus, what happens if your throttle servo goes out? what do you do then?

I have the Hanger 9 27% Extra and I have the Smart-fly kill switch in mine. The added safety for the cost in money and very little weight is worth it. I wouldn't fly a gasser without one.

I used to use an optical kill switch, but now I just use a choke servo, kills 2 birds with one stone.

I used the choke servo to except depending on whether or not the servo pushes or pulls to close the choke may make a difference if the engine bolts get loose and the engine pulls forward from the slack..

I have both a Choke servo and a SF kill..my biggest reason for the FO Kill is simple..if for some reason you lose power to the rx how will you activate the choke servo? With the FOK the engine is cut as soon as power is lost..obviously you will be crashing but at least if wont be at full throttle. Im sure the odds of that are high but knowing me, Id be the one it happens to

I agree, use a eng kill ..Installed on my 3 gassers as well.
I have the same H9 Extra 260 and can take some pics if you want to view my setup. |

Electronic engine kill device should be mandatory in my opinion. I have one installed in each of my 3 petrol powered comp r planes.
