I too wondered if that motor box was shortened, then stand offs added. Larry, sorry I did not get a build going on mine.... I am packing up and I believe we have the house sold and headed for Nashville. Good thread, get r done.

What did you use to secure the hinges (epoxy, etc) and did you pin them? I've always used Robart hinge points with excellent results, no failures to date. Also I found that at extreme throws the rudder horn and elevator(s) will bind.
Did you have this problem? Anyway, that color scheme is great!

Polyurethane Glues such as Probond or Gorilla glue has always given me excellent results for securing hinges. As far as the rudder horn interfering with the elevators at extreme throws, Keeping the rudder horn total width at 3.5" or less will prevent that from happening....it`s close, but you can get full down elevator travel with no binding.

Thanks Propstiker,
I'll keep that rudder horn under 3.5" for clearance. I'm powering mine with a 3W106b2 with cans. Also using Power expander and Turbo Reg. I really like the workmanship on the plane and the two piece cowl. I'm looking forward to your build thread so get to work and post lotsa pics. thanks.

Propstriker, here is trick I use for wooden dowels standoffs, stand it on edge,on a piece of wax paper, start putting THIN ca on the end grain untill it comes out the bottom(you can see its progresson the out side as it goes down),Ive used this on many planes and to this date NEVER had on split, this includes 100 thru 150 size motors. Try it u'll like it.

Thanks Garrett!...been wanting to ask, the ones flown in China...any cooling issues or baffles installed? I wasn`t planning on any for this plane, and just going with a nice size exit hole.

That's what I'm talking about! That's exactly how I have mine set up. Not only is it ten times stronger than wood, it looks ten times better too. And the aluminum doesn't weigh that much. Lookin great!

might as well duct it. Two piece cowl makes it simple and your doing such a nice job already might as well go all the way.

Larry, I had no problems at all with the 3w 106 on cans while I was in China. The plane will not need baffles but like the above said since it a two piece cowl it would be really easy to put some nice baffles in. It wont hurt anything but you would only gain from it. So either way you should be fine.
