need to know what you have currently.
You'll need a minimum of 6 channels. JR 6102 or like for minum. High end 10x, or futaba 12z. Gyro, I suggest the futaba 401 with 9254 high speed digital. That gyro will get you through most everything, up until Psycho 3D, and even then you can push it to make it work. Let us know what you have, what your budget is, and what you want to do, and we'll go from there. |

If you are going to stay in the hobby with either helis or planes I would get a futaba 9c. It will save you in the long run as it is very user friendly and has every feature you will ever need. I would check out the Gohbee Stinger 50. Fully compatible with the raptor from the swash plate down and it is a really good buy.

Since you already have an Eclips 7, that will work for now.
You will want to upgrade to a more modern radio like the Futaba 9C or JR 9303 at some point. As was mentioned above you will be very happy with a Futaba 401 gyro with the 9254 servo. In modern heli terms a gas heli is considered to be one that runs on gasoline and are some of the biggest RC helies available ( with a price tag to match). What you are referring to is a Glow powered heli that runs on an alcohol based fuel.

When you say gas do you mean gasoline or glow? You can't beat a raptor for you first heli if glow is your thing.

I was using a futaba 7chp for quite a while. There is no Governor menu and it only has one three position switch, but you can get one pretty cheap. Go with the best that you can afford. Measure twice, buy once.

It depends on where you want to go in this hobby.
If you are going to want to learn 3D type flying then the 50 size would be the place for you to start. If your aspirations are scale and scale type flight, then there is nothing wrong with a 30. even if you start with a 30 it is not a real big deal to upgrade it to a 50 later on, although the total cost will be higher since you will have bought both a 30 and a 50 engine.

I have to agree with the others about the Raptor, they are the small block chevy of helis. The darn things are everywhere, they fly good, and parts are cheap. I also agree, go with a 50, it is good to have the extra power, especially if you want to put a scale fuse on it sometime. For the price difference, the 50 is the way to go. For gyro, go GY-401, it will last you a long time. For a radio, the Hitec will work for now, but you will really want to get a Futaba 9C or JR 9303.
