Default 50% Pitts Python M12 Scratch Build

Hi All,
This is a thread for all to watch the creation of a Beast. From scratch.

It is a culmination of years of experimentation, trial and error, combining the best of what I have learned to build fast, cheap, strong, light weight airframes.

I'm 49 and have been scratch building since about 9.

A handful of guys know me for a couple projects I have done and some know me thru IMAC. (Go NCFR).

I have a degree in aviation as an A&P mechanic.

This will not be the normal or conventional build.

I hope you enjoy it.

Here's the end goal.

My first step was finding images to use.

This will be a scale ship. No lowering of stabs or shifting the main wing back like some arf's. You will not be able to tell the difference when it parked next to the real plane.

Here's what I started with.

Let me say thanks right now to my lovely daughter for her work to get this thing going. Paying tuition at PSU has had a dividend.

A grid was generated on the images with Auto Desk. The airframe lines were drawn using Auto Desk. Each square block represents 1 square foot of full scale. By simply changing the zoom in Adobe Reader and using a ruler until the squares were 6x6 inch makes the 1/2 scale images.

I use my laptop and a projector to project the images onto a wall.

The image was subtracted out by my lovely daughter leaving this. You can see paper taped to the wall. Using a pencil and ruler you simply trace the image on the paper. No plotters or expensive print shop fees. Just a pencil.

I started this project on Sept 15, 2010.

Last one tonight.

Here are the first few pieces going together.

Yes. It's aluminum. Straight from Home Depot.

Almost everything will be from Home Depot, Lowe's or the Beer Store.

Later

When I said this will be scale......well.....the fuse is built exactly as the big brother.

I want to thank a guy named Darin Bishop. If any of you know him, shake his hand for this.

www.2wings.com

I have never seen a site with the data that this one has. It is hard to believe what he has compiled for all of us to use. A builders dream. Thanks again Darin.

Some pics of where we're going with this.
