To avoid making the Little Prop ( 36" ) look stupid I've decided to shorten the gear a pinch.
Here's the paper computer at work. I'm thinking the ship shown here has shortened gear. Maybe.... Kevin.. ???? |

I just would like to ask that everyone keep Japan with the horrific disaster in mind and pray for the best for human kind. Sometimes we take for granted how fortunate we are.

The Foam Legs are done. We're going with a composite structure. I have a huge roll of Graphlite rod I was going to use for a full scale glider but that is on hold so I'm going to use some of it for the gear. Aircraft Spruce sells it and you can buy 12 foot lengths of 1/8 diameter I believe. It is off the charts for strength in tension and compression. Well mix in some 1/4 plywood and some aluminum. It will work and I'm looking forward to trying some of these ideas I have had for quite some time.
If you see this in the future you can say you know where it started. If it fails you can say you don't know me. Uses are endless. |

Karl,
2 gear lengths available for the model 12. Standard and long. Standard is for all model 12 aircraft EXCEPT those that get the BPE hotrod engine which requires a longer prop (102" instead of 98"). Standard gear is as follows (think of a one piece alum RC model landing gear): 1.25" thick 6" wide alum 2024-T3 32" wide flat for fuselage mount 3.5" radius 118 degree inside bend at the shoulder 3.5" radius 143 degree bend at bottom to get 9 degree over camber 38.875" total height 72" width where axles attach (plus axles and tires for full track width) So from the lower longerons to the ground, it is about 48" including the tire diameter. The tall gear is 3" tall than the above info. This is what is on Kendal's airplane and a few others but most model 12's have the standard gear. |
