Pale, a lot of the hitec servos that have problems were the low end ones, myself and numerous friends have been flying 5945s for 3-4 years with awesome results, no probs. The 5955 has set the bar for giant scale servos, the 8611 isn't even close IMO.

Well thats good to know Razor..I really do like my 8611's but Im always looking to try other stuff out and they look pretty good..I know alot of people say they wear the gears out after only 50-100 flights but I have almost 250 flights on my first set and they are the same as new..maybe 1 1/16th play..I just figured Id get them replaced under warranty since Im not using them now..

Pale, I think the 8611s are hit or miss on how sloppy they get, probably 50/50, and setup and application. If you are running them on a 30% I would imagine it would take a lot longer to wear them out than say a single 8611 on the elevator of a hard flown 3D 40% plane.

I've been told that the problem with the 8611's is that the dead band is way too tight. Like they burn themselves up trying to center themselves in anything other than perfect conditions.
All I really know about the JR's is that, for a servo that is/was(until the 5955) supposed to be the most precise and strongest servo for giant scale planes, it sure bitches alot. The three I have (all on single servo rudder setups) all whine like crazy and all have had warranty work within the first year they were placed in use.
I've always used hitecs for eveything else, even the low end servos on .40 sized planes, and havent had an ounce of trouble out of them.
The proof is in the puddin'. just my two cents

You may have a point since Im only using one per surface..I have 10 in all and they are all exactly the same..There are a few guys that have some 35 and 40%'s with Hitecs and they buzz as much as the Jr's..I do make sure my linkage is tight and maximize the mechanical advantage though..I have 70 degrees on my elevators..makes for some sweet waterfalls and tumbles

As long as I dont read any thing too negative about them Ill prolly give them a go

My Hitec does buzz all the time but it has titanium gears, they dont get sloppy like the 8611.

Using a Hitec 5955 or JR 8611 right out of the box is exactly the same setup wise for both servo's, if you match them you need a unit to do it with like a matchbox.

But with the Hitec's you can program dead band, center and endpoints.

Anyone want some slightly used (48 flights) 8611As? I just got a bunch of 5955s from ServoCity on sale... $91.99. I'm switching my back-up plane over to them.

Sorry. I guess I'm just getting really tired of these "which product" types of threads.

Come on folks! Can't we leave this stuff for the other sites?
