Vic..Ok that makes more sense then..it seemed like the posts were directed toward my questions regarding Hitec servos and programmer..no worries!

Yes. Thanks Vic! I'm talking about brand wars. I'm sorry Pale Rider, I was not directing my post at you, just the thread in general. I should have made that clear. My fault completely.

ive had a whole rack of servos in my time, jr's, futabas, and hitecs and so far im stuck on hitecs. i love them! the hs-55 is awesome for foamies and the 56-57 and 59 are perfect for giant scale (not to mention the 75% of the price!).

Here's a quote from www.servotestsite.com. He concluded he prefers the 5955 but he also had this to say.
"The JR 8611A tested as the strongest. I managed to get about 320 oz-in out of it. It didn’t last long at that load. I burned out two of them. The third one that I tested broke its gear train trying to lift a weight of 300 oz. Both the Hitec 5955 and the Futaba 9152 tested lower than their specification. The Hitec 5955 tested nearly 1/3 less than their specification .Hitec claims 330 oz in on 6V. I could not get more than about 220 oz-in out of any of the three 5955 I tested or the 5995. The Futaba 9152 tested about 15 % less than its specification. The difference in my test and the test Futaba performs probably explains the difference between my results and theirs, but I am at a loss to explain why the Hitecs test so low. Maybe Hitec can explain that." |

When people do test like this, how do they determine the arm length? Z06 here is a very bright mechanical engineer who has conducted his own servo test. How do you measure torque torsionally? When you torque on an arm, the longer the arm, the less advantage you have, obviously. How does a manufacturer measure theirs? Thanks...

I have about two dozen flights now on my new HS-5955TG's. That beats the record on my 8611A's. I am very impressed with my battery voltage after flying, and they still are tight as new. I am flying my plane, and not sending servos back for repairs. So far so good.

I think I will try the 5955's in my next plane but not cause I dont like my 8611's..I have over 100 flights on them and they do have some play..but no more than when they were new..I like to try different products so I will give them a try.

TORQUE remains a constant regardless of arm length while FORCE is reduced with anything longer than 1” and increased when shorter. T-Torque F= Force D=Distance 1” servo arm 300oz-in TORQUE rated servo 1” x 300ozs = 300oz-in TORQUE 300 / 1 = 300oz FORCE F=T/D 300 / 1.5 = 200oz FORCE 300 / 1.25 = 240oz FORCE 300 / .75” = 400oz FORCE T=FxD T = 1.5 x 200 = 300oz-in T = 1.25 x 240oz = 300oz-in T = .75 x 400oz = 300oz-in |

OK, what I'm about to say may make me unpopular. Based on all the love for Hitec, I gave the 5955's a try on my new plane. Its the Troy/Roman Built 35% Extra 260. On another 35% plane I have been running 8611's (not 8611A's). While I can feel a little gear slop in the 8611's, its not that bad after close to 100 flights.
Now, onto the 5955's. They don't center well. The 8611's center better. Kris on here admits this but says you can get better centering by reducing the deadband on the 5955's. Problem is, I don't have a programmer. I don't want to get one as I may not continue using Hitecs long term. I don't need to program the servos otherwise as I don't have any ganged on this plane. Next, the 5955's exhibit "stepping". So much so that when I move my elevators slowly, their is a noticeable vibration. You can hear this. I called Hitec service and asked about this. The tech was nice and even listened to the vibration over the phone (it's that loud). He said it was the nature of the digital servo and that there probably wasn't anything wrong. The thing is, my 8611's don't do this. They are very smooth and precise. I found some other guys on RCU experiencing this stepping vibration on both the 5955's and the new 5985's. It hasn't affected flying but it is concerning to me none the less. So you say, get 8611A's if you don't like the Hitecs. Well there is now the uncertainty surrounding them.....what is a guy supposed to do???

I will read all 132 posts today but I want to throw this out now at the risk it may (tho doubtful) already been discussed:
How about the Hitec HS625 & HS645 for a SD-Model Extra 30% er? I must be a damn old school analog hold out - but I'm not a super hotdogger hucker either. At $36 ea. and > 94oz can you beat the price to benefit? So I have a basic suptidio question needing your genteel imput: What is the problem of using analog over digital if you don't want to spend $80 / 100 a servo?? |

Bro I am a Hitec man but those older 645/625's are not for these planes - they just dont centre well - check out the 5625/5645' they are everywhere at $45 and are a lot better - big planes need digi's for sure. and you can get cheap digis from Cyrus and others if the price is the issue.
