Anybody have any hints or pics on how to airbrush a foamy. I've seen a couple of really nice paint jobs on these little planes but how do you layer the paint and know what colors to paint? Thanks.

You can paint which ever colors you want....just be sure to put the coats on very lightly and allow time to dry between coats or you will eat the foam

I use Createx T-shirt paints. I sometimes just freehand designs, sometimes I use a mask made from clear contact shelf paper that can be bought at walmart.
this is a Mini Sabre, I freehanded my base coat which is just orange with some blue accent along edges, then I drew the mask on the backside of the self paper . after letting the base coat dry for about 3 hrs I layed down my mask, which is not very tacky on the depron, then I sparyed along the edges the white that makes the flame

What airbrush system are you using?
Been wanting to get one, but I don't want to blow a whole lot of dough on one if a cheaper one can do just as well.

Look down the page on this thread...my cousin and I did all the flames with a rattle can...no taping...read the entire thread (long) for How to paint Foamys withOUT a airbrush...you will not believe your eyes...easy, too.

The Paasche VL airbrush is pretty cheap (as low as 50-60 bucks) and works good. I did some asking around before getting one & it seemed to be the winner for a low dollar double action airbrush. The Itawa (sp?) were the winners for quite a few more $$. Unfortunately I haven't really done any fine line work with it. It's been mask and paint. The nice thing about it is starting the airflow & being able to control the paint flow. Rattle can is all or nothing. I love the water soluble paints too. Just take it over to the sink & blast some water through!
