Okay, there are only 3 popups that come up on my computer whenever I open Internet Explorer. They are from www.systemdoctor.com, www.winantivirus.com, and www.drivecleaner.com . They are extremely persistant pop-ups and they basically take over the window I am using, to the point that I have to close out IE to get rid of them and hope they don't come back when I open it again. I have Spybot, and have scanned my computer several times with no help. I also have Adaware, and it is no help. What can I do??? I have even tried going directly to the website to contact and threaten them, but they won't allow you to contact them unless you are a customer! PLEASE!!! Do they really think I would buy their crap after they have, on multiple occasions, invaded my privacy and taken over my computer??? Currently, I have popup blocker set to maximum and it keeps them from taking over my computer, but their windows are still there when I close out IE.
Anyway, what can I do to get rid of them and is there a legal course of action one can take? This can't be legal...

By the way, I don't know where they came from. I had a roomate that had a **** addiction (more than the normal) and belonged to match.com. The only sites I frequent are this site and a couple other R/C forums, and occasionally shop online, but no more until I figure out where this adware came from...

one of the best free ones is "Spybot search & destroy" it's found here
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html i think the 3rd download host down lets you download it without joining anything |

When I first got highspeed internet I got hammered by all sorts of trojans when I did a search for hacker brushless lol!!
I didnt even have Windows XP Service pack two. I have since learnt my lesson. Download all the updates from microsoft and if you dont mind spending a little money buy a firewall/virus scanner. I bought McAfee, its pretty cheap and since I have I have never had a single problem. |

Thanks guys, I just did the windows update and the only thing needed was something like "genuine advance notification". I downloaded it. I already had that spybot-search and destroy and it couldn't fix it. So far I haven't had the popups in the past 10 minutes, but if I do I might try one of the above links.
Thanks

Bodywerks,
I had the same exact problem. A virus took over my home page. You can call a Microsoft Anti-spyware hotline at 1-866-pcsafety(727-2338). The call is totally FREE. Tell them your symptoms and they will put a GEEK(computer tech) on the line. The tech I spoke with spent 30+ minutes on the phone with me until he had my computer fixed. He refered me to download.com and advised me to download 3 or 4 fix-it programs. Hope that helps you out. Jeff |

Hey guys...
You can go to www.trendmicro.com and run their home-scan for free on their site and that will tell you if you've got a virus. If no virus is found, download AdAware SE at www.download.com. Trend Micro is about the best Anti Virus that you can get. I run that on our main server here at work and we don't have any spyware or virus problems at all. It's great.

Another thing that you can do to get rid of the pop ups is to use a different web browser, I downloaded the mosilla firefox. www.mozilla.com It has worked great for me and others

The fix that I'm using has been really simple: Windows Defender from Microsoft. It's been able to get rid of everything that Spybot and AdAware haven't been able to. Here's the link to the download page:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/S...displaylang=en. Download Windows Defender Beta 2 and run it.

Well, guys, it might have been an easier fix. I will be the first to say I am no computer geek so I don't even know the basics of getting rid of this stuff. So I think someone on another site may have thought that and told me how to go into "documents and settings" and check my cookies. Sure enough, along with several other cookies, there were all three of these bastards in there! I have deleted all the cookies and so far am problem-free...
