Well guys,

Here is our chance. Let's have it. Share all of your pattern stories and questions right here. Biff was nice enough to give us our own formun, so let's not let is sit here and idle.

I will start by saying a little about myself. I started in pattern in 2001. I flew Sportsman for two contests, then found that pattern was in my blood. The next winter I built my first pattern ship, which was a 2 meter Olympian Medal, powered my an O.S. 140RX. I used a JR 10X radio to tell the JR servos what to do. I did well in the 2002 season and one the Intermediate NSRCA District 4 Championship. I was very proud of that. I also flew Intermediate in 2003, but lost the title. In 2004, I had a high attrition rate of pattern planes, but kept with it. I decided to fly Advanced, but was not able to, due to the lack of a plane until mid season. Well, by then the damage was already done. No Championship in 2004 eighther. Well, then there is 2005. I had a pretty good hold on the Championship all the way until the last day of the District finals, when my head turned stupid on me, and made rookie mistakes. Oh, well, what a learning experience. Not to mention the good times I had with all of my Pattern buds. The drive home from Kentucky that day was a very long one, and all I could think about was the 2006 season, and that is still all I think about. Well guess what? 2006 is here. I will be flying new Temptations powered my new Mintor 170's this year. Maybe the bad carma is gone, only time will tell. Maybe this is it. Maybe this is my year. If not, I will always have my pattern buds, they will never be able to take that away from me. We all know that is the real reason we do this. Lord knows it's not for the fame, money, or the women. We spend hundreds of dollars on a weekend so we can have a small chance at bringing home a small piece of wood, or do we? Don't forget we all bring home a weekend full of good memories. Don't ever forget that, because no matter what happens, nobody will ever be able to take that away from you. And that my friends is why I fly pattern. The wood is just a very very small bonus. How many of you just throw that piece of wood in a box when you get home, then never think about it again, but find yourself reliving all of the memories spent with your friends over and over again? Now share your thoughts.

Brett,

Why do you say that? Are you getting fame, money, and women out of this hobby? I'm married, so I will have to settle for the fame, and money. How do you do it? I know your a great pilot, but that good? Just playing with you. I have to take a dig at you now while I have a chance, because I know you are going to hand me my a$$ at the Nats this year. Do me a favor and don't practice, and I will practice every chance I get, then maybe I'll have a chance against ya. By the way I'm thinking about flying a boxer this year. You may be to young to know what that is. Are you? By the way, I have a new baby at home, does that mean you will give me a break? I didn't think so.

By the way Brett, I know you, but do you know me? We were both at the Nats last year, and as I said in another post I judged you in Intermediate. I do believe if you flew Advanced last year you may have one. You made Intermediate look way to easy. Keep up the good work dude, you are going to go far. Keep a good attitude, and keep flying the way you are, and not only will you bring home the wood, but you will make a ton of friends. I will intorduce myself to you this year. I hope to learn some of your tricks. I know how you stealthy pilots work. I have been flying with Jesky for years, so I know when you guys make mistakes, even though you guys are so good a hiding them. Thats one of the things I haven't mastered yet.

Good luck to you,

Mike Darr

Hi Mike and Brett,

BTW, Mike, the only reason Cindy fell for you is your pretty toy airplanes

I first started in Pattern during the 2004 season, I think I made 4 contests that year, got spanked pretty good. Then came the '05 season...I was determined to do better, so I practiced every chance I got. Well, it helped, I came back to win the District 4 Championship, in Sportsman. Not real impressive, but it made me happy. This year is going to be all new to me as I am moving up to Intermediate, even though I don't have to.
My new El Nino will be my secret weapon. I've seen this plane fly, in much more capable hands than mine, and as long as the plane remembers what it's supposed to do, I shouldn't get slapped around too bad.

That's about it for now, I've got to go get ready for all of the Fame and Money

Sorry Mike, don't recall you from last year. Looking forward to meeting you this year. There were too many new faces and friends to remember all of them

As for the fame, money, and women -- not yet

Brett,

It will all come in good time. Hang in there. Like I said, you have tons of potential. Don't worry about not remembering me. We never formally met, plus there is a lot of people at the Nats. I might not have remembered you either if it wasn't for you awsome flying that stuck out so much.

Now Ken, c'mon. The El Nino' you secrect weapon. We all know you are going to be flying the Showtime. Besides with those new SFG's I made for you is all you need to win. Did you test fit them on the plane yet? Did you get the picture of mine? Andy is going to see if he can break them for me. In the air that is. I don't think it can be done. They should hold up real well. If you do decide to fly the El Nino' in the Nats, I think that crack in the canopy could work out to your advantage, kind of like Christiphes little wing thingy bighind the canopy. I will be using two of those on my Boxer. One on top, and one on the bottom. Watch out Fortino, they won't be calling you Boxer Bob anymore. I will forever be remembered as Boxer Darr. HeHe. Just kidding. I'll be flying a Temptation, and Brett, trust me, you don't have anything to worry about.

Hey Brett,

If you don't mind me asking. What does Yooki mean? You don't have to answer if you don't want. Obviously I use Temptation because that is what I will be flying next year. That is if my new pride and joy (my new baby Elliott allows me enough time to finish it that is). If not, I will be flying my trusty old USA Star again, or maybe even my Showtime. Man I hope not.

What will you be flying Brett? Or is that something you would like to keep secrect?

Yep got the pics, if my next inverted harrier ends up like my last one, I'll break them, LOL.

Yeah, that crack isn't centered though, the wind will probably push me all over the sky, check it out, I'm making excuses already!

Yooki has no real meaning, just a name I've been using online for years (I'm a nerd )

As far as what I'll be flying, good question! We aquired a genesis kit that is slowly coming together and Bryan Hebert is painting an Impact for us (this will definitely be badass, hopefully it stays together), something we got from the auction at the nats last year Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I've flown several genesii and an Impact and I've liked the flying characteristics of the Impact better than anything. Ours will no doubt be incredible looking and hopefully will stay together for the season at least. My dad has spent some time looking over crash stories/photos and we think we can keep it together.
