Guys, this is what we need ,, lots of photos! Most of us no nothing about these things, keep the info and PHOTOS coming in. I would love to get more exposure for pattern. Would be interested in hosting a pattern contest at Triple Tree if support is there. Tbone Brown had a great one and we can do it again with your help. Biffy

Biff,
As for photos, I have a ton of build photos of the pattern planes I have built over the years. I am more than willing to share them with this site. Problem is, I don't know how to post them yet. Plus they would need to be resized. Ken, what do you say, want to help a brotha out? Biff, I think you would find the inside of some of these birds prettey interesting. I will e-mail some of what I have to Ken, then we will see if they show up here. I think this is a great idea, sharing pictures. Biff, as for Ken's El Nino' that is a Geoff Combs design, built by Mark Atwood. Ken is hoping the plane will remember how to fly. Only problem is, Mark flew FAI with it. Not to sure if that plane even knows what Intermediate is. Just playin Ken, you know I love ya. By the way, are we flying the Showtimes tomorrow after work? I think I can be out there around 4ish. What do you say? Now c'mon Ken, don't let me down, get my pics up here, then maybe this weekend we can get together, and you can show me how to post them myself. Mike Darr |

Todd,
It was Pete's plane that I saw close up, while the motor was being installed. Mike, Send the pics, I'll re-size them tomorrow and get 'em posted for you, no sweat I didn't tell you? I'm flying FAI next year... Let's see if anything starts on that comment. |

O.k. Guys,
I just e-mailed Ken Thompson an overwhelming amount of build pictures from the second Olympian Medal 2 meter pattern plane that I built. This plane was built completley by me from begining to end. It has an O.S. 140RX for power with an ES Composite pipe and Hatori 917 o-ring header. I ran a varaition of props on this plane. 17x12, 16x14, 18x10 15.75x11 three blade. All worked out good, but I really liked the three blade on calm days, and the 17x12 on the windy days. I ran an O.S. A5 plug with Cool Power 15%. The plane weighs 10lbs. 12 oucnes. Vertical performance was very good up to Masters. I think it may have struggled if used for FAI. I use a JR 10X radio with 955 reciever. 8411SA on Rudder Ailerons, and Elevaror. 3421 on throttle. I have learned that was not the best use of servos in a pattern plane. I no longer use 8411's on everthing. Anyway. Tettra fuel tank, Monokote covering, PPG base coat clear coat for paint, mixed to match the Monokote at my local automotive paint supplier. Bolly F3A wide gear, with the carbon pants. Central aluminum axles, with Du-Bro ultra light wheels which I turn down to make a little thinner to fit in the Bolly pants. All foam parts are 3/4 lb sheeted with contest grade balsa. I used Elmers Polyurathane probond to glue the sheeting to the wings, stabs, and rudder. CA hinges on all control surfaces. Interior is carbon/carbon plate from Lamar Blair. Rudder and Elevatorsare pull-pull. Ailerons use Central carbon rods with 4-40 titanium ends. MK control horns on ailerons, and Stainless 6-32 threaded rod for control horns on rudder and elevators. Hyde ARA(I) engine mount. on a Lamar Carbon firewall. Tru-turn 3 inch spinner. Duralight battery for the reciever with their regulator. JR heavy duty charger jack switch. If I have left anything out and anyone has any questions let me know, and I will do my best to answer any questions. Hopefully Ken can get some pictures up soon to show what I have just wrote about. Enjoy, Mike Darr |

Doug,
Sorry, I saw you were quoting Ken. Now I know it's a joke. Ken, you better be careful with that El Nino'. That thing may just start flying the FAI sequence all on it's own. You will think you are having radion problems, and all along the plane is going to think that Mark Atwood is holding the transmitter. You may start to prevent that problem by removing the Airtronics stickers, that way the plane will know it has a new owner. Oh wait, it already does, I don't think Mark ever mistreated it the way you do, gesh, you have it for one day and you abuse the thing by cracking the canopy. Just playin man. Remember, i'm the one that has the repaint it for you. Oh well, it will be my pleasure. We need to get it fixed before Mark sees it. Now let's go break our Showtimes tomorrow. Mike |
