My initial flights were balanced dead on center of the rear wing tube. This created a slightly nose heavy plane in the air which I like for IMAC. I have not yet flown it from the front wing tube. I suspect it will either balance equally or be slightly tail heavy using the front wing tube which would be better for 3D.

I have a WH 41% Extra 300 with a DA 150 with DA mufflers 6 HiTec 5955's, one small Throttle servo and a Seiko without an extra battery pack. 2 5600 7.4 Li Ion 4 cells through a Smart Fly Distributor-Regulator setup and a 2800 7.4 Li Ion 2 cells with regulator for ignition. Pete's Carbon fiber tail landing gear. No spinner, no wheel pants and 2 0z's shaved off the canopy-hatch area, 50 oz fuel tank. All up weight came out at exactly 38.35 lbs on a digital scale which is a very good weight for a plane this size. What did you do differently to get this weight? I could have shed about a pound off but do not want to sacrifice safety and the planes integrity to do it!!!!!

ScottZ,
Your weights are right in line with what I observed. I had a prototype with a DA150 on stock mufflers that weighed 38 pounds 2 ounces. My production model with DA150 on MTW cans weighed 40 pounds 6 ounces. Each plane was weighed with a digital scale. I don't see a way to trim much more than 1/2 to 3/4 pounds from the setups I used without getting unsafe as you mentioned. |
