Default Gas Prices

No we all know gas prices suck right now... but I just realized how much they suck when I put togethor a little analysis of my travels the past few weeks! I added up all the fuel costs that I spent traveling to an IMAC event in PA, and then out to the Huckfest and back towing my 6x10 v-nose trailer with a Explorer, AWD V8. This includes the gasoline I bought for the airplanes as well, and all the driving I did while at the events, including some family visits in PA between the events. Total round trip cost in fuel......

$488.15.... in just over a week's time.

Average price: about $3.00/gallon
Low Price: 2.69/gallon - Ohio
High Price: $3.39/gallon - Connecticut
Gallons Burned (approx):162
Miles traveled (Approx): 1800
MPG (Approx): 11.11

Not thats burning some gas! Was it worth it you ask??? You bet! I had a great time and it was a nice, relaxing time period off. Plus, its only money! Its not like you can take it with you when you croak! Would have I liked to have paid less, HELL yes... but its as they say... if you wanna play, you gotta pay!

Heh, we had to tow a 13 foot v nose to Nall with a 4 cylinder tacoma, it got about 12 mpg, we filled up about 5-6 times after the whole trip was done.

Funny item in the paper today. Gas prices are at an all time high. Public outcry ia also very high. But get this - gas use is ALSO at a near record high.

So quiz me this, if you ran a business and you kept raising the price of your product and people kept buying it despite the higher prices, and in record amounts, what would you do?? Lower the price, or raise it??

I hate high prices, but I am fascinated that all we are doing is whining about how much it costs while lining up to fill our 11 MPG gas hogs rather than actually doing something to USE LESS OF IT. Like buy more fuel efficient cars (change demand for the car companies), elect people who will make the auto companies get serious about the CAFE standards, drive less, etc.

I have a truck and a van. I drive the van every chance I get and leave the truck parked. My next car will be a hybrid as well. I am also trying to drive less overall. Gas prices fromjust a year ago are costing me over $1,100 more per year

The only problem with the hybrids (other than they only got about 20 ponys under the hood) is that i heard that even with gas prices how the are they still are more expensive when you add up the extra retail price, the baterries that will need replaced, and the fuel cel that will eventually need to be replaced. now im not saying we need to all go buy f350 super duties but we do need to work on advancing some of this new technology to make it more cost efficiant. But thats just my .02

Tank I know that feeling. Driving to the Nall, the XFC, and the Huckfest. I figure that I have burned around $600 in gas. Also, when I drove to the Nall and the XFC I was in my little fuel efficient car because I wasn't flying and didn't have to haul planes. When I drove to the Huckfest I had to take the old farm truck that gets about 11 MPG because it is the only thing that I have now that will transport a larger plane.

Come to think of it, my primary and favorite flying field is 2 hours each way and I am always traveling to as many events as I can, towing a 12' V nose trailer, I wonder how much I spend on gas, I just keep pumping it.

I just read that in the WSJ today as well. I drive my car and motorcycle mostly, and only use the suv for towing the boat or airplane trailer. I definetly have cut down in the amount of driving that I do on a weekly basis, but I think all the traveling to airplane events is making up for it! One thing the better half laughs at me for is when I get gas during the week, I only put in a half tank... I figure, why should I pay to store it in my tank... plus, i read somewhere that if everyone just filled up with a half a tank instead of a full tank, the weekly sales of oil companies would plummet dramatically. I dont know if there is any truth to it... but for some reason I do it...
