at least 100oz/in of torque for the servos I would think, Sullivan and Du-bro make nice tanks

Sounds like a CHP 34% extra. I would go to Chip Hydes web site and download the instruction manual for the 34% extra...It has a recommended setup and supplies needed (servos w/ torgue). Tony

9152's by Futaba if your using CHP airplane, If not I prefer 8611's but if thats not for you any good servo with >100 oz of torque per servo. Couple of Li Ion fromeco pacs, and some regs with some HD switches.

Also may want to take a look at the 9153's. Same motor with a different gear set, giving up a little bit of torque for speed. Since you're using 2, they would great for the ailerons.

Any servo mentioned is great!!! As far as fuel cells, I use the Bennett tanks!!! They are pretty flat, and you can stick them about anywhere. I run a 32oz. and can get in excess of 25 minutes of run time on a "fill-up!" I fly mostly IMAC, right now, but can still HUCK IT with the best. When I fly IMAC, I fly 2 seq's and land with just under 1/2 tank. It is right around 12 minutes/flight.
Want to try to get the tank right on the CG, to avoid CG shift in flight. If I ever get a full weekend off, I'll be able to finish out my Carden, and get everything set up in it, and hopefully be able to takea few pics of it insides. Chris~

Dual Fromeco 2400's for Rx, one for ignition, one 5955 for rudder, 5945's everywhere else, in-cowl mufflers (not cannisters), CF Spinner, CF gear from www.graphtechrc.com (the Columbo anderson 34% extra gear), cf wing and stab tubes from www.troybuiltmodels.com and KISS!!! No powerboxes, dual receivers, matchboxes, smoke, and other dead weight stuff like that. The key to using one 5955 on the rudder is to keep the plane LIGHT!!! Anything under 25 pounds and you are good to go with the single servo. 26-30 pounds and you should go with two of those or two 5945's...

To be honest, Chip Hyde looks like he is giving those things away, and with great hardware! One guy on this site SuperDave was selling one for $500 un-covered. Then you can modify it if you like. Just seems like a cheaper way (if thats what your aiming for). One thing I have learned in this, is that by trying to save money here and there only ends up costing more in the long run, than if you bought the good stuf the first time. Why try and re-invent the wheel?

THAT IS THE TRUTH!!! I have the CHP ARC sitting in my basement collecting dust right now. I bought it before they went on sale, bought CF parts for it, and spent some 50-60 hours doing mods to it. They are cool and all, but I would have been better off just buying the ARF and CF parts, both money and time-wise.

Thanks for all of the information. This is NOT a CHP, This is my own design that I have drawn up on 1"x1" grid Paper and no not 1" peices! The sheets are about 3'x4' that I have taped together. It has a fus. built up kind of like a Carden but with out the Foam. It also has full built up Wings Not sheeted Foam. My Extra will have a full wing length ail that goes all the way over to the fus except for about a 1/4"! With this it gives me a longer Ail! The rudder will be a little bit larger then normal I think. I have drawn 3 different deisgns for this. Not sure which one I will use yet though.
I have though about buying a CA 34% Extra kit. It has the same Dimetions as mine but the kit is $650.oo Not that bad of a price tag if you as me! It already has sheeted wings, El, rudder, Makes it nice for us guys that have never sheeted a wing! Baker |
