Guys,
This is a great idea that's akin to the "mousse can" mufflers that were done for Fun Fly planes and the Outlaw delta by Jerry L. Smith. And another friend of mine, Jerry Bullaboy from Salisbury, NC, applied it back in the Spring to apparently good effect! He sent me these pics that show how he did it on his Aviation Models Yak a few moths ago. I haven't seen or heard them in person but they apparently work quite well! Innovation comes in all forms.........and is often inspired over a beer or two......... |

I think you could cut the bottoms out of another can and stuff them inside with a few holes to make baffles... That aluminum will stretch enough to cram a bottom in ther for a baffle plate!

Awwww Shhhhhhhhhhuuuueeeettttt! Now, I know ya'll ain't gonna believe this but less than a month ago at the flying field. I spyed a "Tall Boy" can in the back of another, "Oil Field Roughneck's" truck, and I asked him if I could have it as I had decided that using JB weld, and Beer Cans, I Could make a cannister for my "BIG BIRD". Now, Bud's come up with a MUCH better Bottle and Cannister!
I heartly congratulate my fellow "Rednecks" for putting into practice something that I knew would work and to think the bottles have a way to make "chambers"! Yeeeeee Haawwwwwwwww! We still celebrate the Birthday of "Levi Garrett"! Now, we can celebrate the creation of the Bud Lite cannister, all from the creative minds of "Southern Rednecks! I'll have another Bud cuz I am about to finish another Plane... Need a Cannister! GilesTxStyle

Now if Lone Star would only try aluminum. Truly nothing like minimum engineering!!

Their a Cannister, but no one claimed them to be a TUNED cannister, I think they really look sweet, but I wouldn't risk a $1,500 -$2,000 engine on testing one out.
I think it would void any warranty you had on you engine wouldn't it? Chuck |

How would it void your warranty? Theres no way it could damage an engine.
It's got to be alot better than standard mufflers. |

Chuck, I feel your concern! The Capps brothers are engineering types. They've done their homework about volume. They are also very careful about checking RPM and cylinder temps. Though it might look like two dudes super gluing two cans together, they know what they're doing. They've figured required volume and are in no way restricting flow of exhaust. If you have standard "mufflers" and a set of cans, you can compare EGT and RPM figures to see what you need to do. If you are seeing EGT/cylinder temps and RPM figures being in the same ball park, you're good to go.
The Capps boys are working on a couple systems right now. I'll let them announce their latest innovation in quiet as it's only fair to them. What I'm most excited about is seeing a couple guys enjoying tinkering together and providing the hobby a much needed service at the same time. The argument that quiet systems are too expensive for some is a real problem. I can't wait to see the finished product on the system they're working on now. Being able to provide build instructions for a super quiet super cheap exhaust system will be a real blessing for folks. Anyone who can assemble an ARF should have no problem assembling a set! Though they are in the very early stages of experimenting, I know they won't quit until it's a reality!!

Thanks Biff, The only thing better than being in this hobby is saving money doing it. I applaud their efforts and hope they succeed.
They have to be stoked working on something that they can do by themselves and save everyone in the hobby money. Please keep us all informed, Chuck |

Will do Chuck. I'll post DB/RPM and overall weight as they give it to me. They're testing a new system on a 3W 140 now. Will post numbers as they send them.
