Default Quick fix for wearing in composite arf hinges

Hi everyone,

After many flights on a composite 2.6 Yak, it was time to fix the slop in the hinges. After looking around the workshop for a cure this is what I come up with using readily available items ( without too much fuss). Here are some pics, to show how I did it! Hope this will help other composite ARF pilots.

By using replacement super glue tips (can be purchased in packs of 10 that can be re used when finished) drill out hinges to the correct diameter , press fit the tips in the holes as shown and trim to length. The inside diameter is already 4mm inside. The 4mm aliminum tube needs to be put back in reverse so the wear marks on the tube don't line up with the new bushes.

Here are some pics to help.

Hi there Yak Attack.... That Fix is fine there in Australia.... We have another option in the US by using a McMaster Nylon bearing #7817K13 http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/112/...l/6126kp1s.gif

This bearing has a load bearing lip on either end, one side is smaller so that it can snap through the hole (it's also split at an angle) which also prevents the bearing from pulling out of the hole. What do you use to prevent the one you have from coming out of the hole?

I've been using those on a CompAfr 3.1 Super Extra which now has 671 flights. They were installed 1½ years ago & have taken away all the slop on the elevator hinges.

Safe Flying...
