Great to meet you Rob and put a face to the name. Took a few pictures, but did not get the one with the presentation of the trophy. Great flying, by the way. What a place to fly a float plane. Got to bring one next year!

Hey guys, we had a great time flying this year at Joe Nall. As Sherman said, the time went by soo fast. We had a great time flying the cubs together. The Cubs were very well received and we got some great video that was shot by Polzsp with the go pros. He has posted one video already and there will be more to come from him. Check out his youtube page ( http://www.youtube.com/user/polzsp?feature=g-all-u ). I believe the video was already posted here in the thread.
My dad also received the Bob Smith award and you can see some pics below of him accepting the trophy. We were all very surprised and he was much honored to receive it. We'll get some more pics up soon as well. Matt |

Well it seems like the Nall lasted two days, man it went fast. We flew the big cub alot and with very few mechanical problems. Steve and Matt spent a lot of time helping on the build crew and with the larger planes, were the much needed pit crew. Matt and I flew most of the flights with rob ( Sherman) getting in a few laps also. rob has been a great help, being a full scale pilot, he taught us how to use the rudder properly and fly in a scale like manner. Flying scale sounds boring but when you try it , the challenge is substantial. I would like to thank all the great family and freinds that have been involved.I had no idea what the Bob Smith Trophy really meant until we received the honor. The award goes to a plane that looks scale and more importantely, flys in a scale like manner. The trophy gets to sit on the mantle for 1 year and I need to present it to next years receipient. I looked over the past winners, who are all listed on the trophy. they went back to 1989 and this appears to be the first float plane that made the grade. Sherman and I were talking, this should hopefully spur on more float plane building and hopefully a bunch of you guys bringing your beautys to the 2013 Nall. Bring it on!!!!
Thanks again for all the supportive comments at the Nall and on line, have a great summer. Underdog |
