I have both flying now..DA-50 in 30% AM YAK..and the ZDZ50ng in my 29% Katana. The DA-50 starts easier..usually 3 flip with choke on..then 3-4th with off..
Now..the zdz..since day one with over 200 flights..has got to get a good prime..12-20 cranks no ign..then ign on and bam..fires up..the zdz has never quit on me EVER..always starts, never hesitates on throttle kick...Now the story on my DA-50..it has killed 3 planes in over 2 years...has been back to factory twice..is on its 3rd carb...
ZDZ support is stellar...just like DA. BTW...spark plugs are bigger and cheaper for ZDZ. ZDZ has 6 prop bolts also..less chance of prop working loose..(it did happen once on my DA-50), but I heard the noise and shut it down. Weight wise..the ZDZ is tiny bit heavier...I run the same props on both..and find the zdz...can pull slight better up the hill..it is probably because of the new porting the NG has.
just my 2cents.

said this many times - almost nothing in it - the ZDZ has much better throttle response - if i had to buy today - i would for sure take another ZDZ50ng - and then maybe another DA50R

throttle response = ability to properly adjust the neddles.

nope! - in this case the rotary valve out performs the reed valve - thats it

type of induction and brand of motor is not important . Proper set-up of the throttle linkage, type and size of the prop and most important tuning abilitys. Weight of the model will also mislead you into thinking one motor responds beter than another.

hey bro - i have had these two motors for more than a year amongst others - i have been around the hobby for many years and my dad for more than 40 years, he is a master tuner. yes you are right it has to do with all those facts - my conclusion remains - after flying both these engines in the same model and same prop i personally believe the ZDZ has better response than the DA

PS; i also understand the principals of induction and using the different systems on mx and go kart racing engines showed the differences clearly. both has advantage and dis advantage.

I have a CA -2x2 /ZDZ50NG my flying buddy CA - 2x2/DA50, using same props ( 23x8 Mejzlik) our comparison is - the ZDZ does like more priming for starting, the ZDZ & DA have both been trouble free. The ZDZ does have the slight edge on power.
The only upside for me is my ZDZ agent is just up the road..

Good flying

swapping out the carb to the 201 carb RCShowcase offers - makes the priming more simple.
If you are into tuned exhausts --you will see the ZDZ50 really kick up it's heels

That's not the case in the DA50 vs. ZDZ50 debate. In my experience, the ZDZ has much better throttle response and performs more consistently. The power and weight difference between the 2 is negligeble. The ONLY downside (if you can call it that) is the ZDZ usually takes a few more flips to start..

Personally, my 2 DA 50r's have been so good to me 20 gallons later, I have no reason to change. Maybe it is just tuning, but it seems ZDZ's are better if you don't mind to electric start or flip 20-30 times cold. My DA is 5-8 flips MAX to make smoke. Gene Payson is one heck of a pilot and tuner. I have seen them resort to electric starting them. I think ZDZ makes a very reliable motor, just finicky to start..... Both great brands.

ZDZ when cold -flip with ignition OFF, choke closed, throttle wide open 8 times. Close choke, high idle throttle, ignition on, fires on the next flip. After the motor is warm, just turn the ignition on and flip, usualy goes on the first flip. Not that hard.

I don't remember posting on this in the past but I am not reading through 10pages LOL. I had one of the first ZDZ 50's not even a NG and it was a beast. I never had a lick of problems. I have since moved up to bigger birds and love all my ZDZ's A hand full of 210's a a 160 Champ. Easy to tune, great throttle and great service. I can not comment on DA's as I have yet to own one that I ran or had to service at all.

I wouln't buy anything but a DA. We came to the shootout, and brought my 50r with me. I crashed it the summer and couldn't get it to make any power. I thought well, I'm going to be in
Tucson for the shootout and I would save the hassle of shipping it from Canada. Went to Da on Thursday to see if they could take a look at it. They said it would hopefully be ready for when we left on Monday. We left and before we even made it to the shootout (less than two hours later) I got a phone call and they said it was repaired and bench tested ready for pick-up. That in my opinion is why you buy DA!!!!!!! Customer Service.
