Back to your original question- I am not convinced that this plane with a gas engine would fit your needs. You said you have noise issues. Even a 50cc engine can be loud.
I would suggest that you look at a pattern plane with 1.4 glow engine and a pipe like a YS140 sport or an OS 140RX. These planes are remarkably quiet and, in my opinion, a pattern plane flies more like a 40% IMAC plane than a smaller IMAC plane does. It would be easy to transport, set up and fly by yourself too. I second Daves opinion. I currently use a 50cc Aeroworks Ultimate for evening practice after work at a field that is close to my home that had noise restrictons. Using the slimline wrap around muffler and a 23x8 Mejzlik prop, I am relatively quiet, but I still get some comments about noise from time to time.

The 2x2 Rocks ..... I have had mine flying for a couple of months now, and its a great machine for flying sequences with, or getting it down into the 3D.
I reckon its a good all round model for someone getting into IMAC, without the budget of a 2.3 or 2.6. Fits in the car easy too. I went for the lightweight "airfield neighbour friendly" setup. The DA50 was going to be way to noisey for my club field without loading the model up with a big canister muffler. So I took the YS160DZ out of my lawn dart (er pattern plane), stuck it in the nose, and used a real simple bolt on muffler that Dave Shadel sells at performance spec. About 60 bucks. You can go all silly and get a flash Hatori setup for the YS, but value for money, the stub muffler is fine. Ok the Hatori is super quiet, so if you've got lots of money, get one. I also used the new Hyde Mount that does not need a nose ring. Also a good buy at about $60 from central hobbies. Bit of extra work to get the CG right, I put the rudder servo right up behind the firewall, its easy to get to through the cowl. Elevator servos are where the rudder servo would normally be, and I used 4mm carbon push rods with the titanium barbed fittings central sell. Small servos might work out down the tail, but the YS is not very heavy, so you would probably need some lead up front to balance it. Plus I wanted lots of grunt on the stab, so I went for 8511's on elev, no sign of any flutter there, even with the long pushrods. Test flew it at the CG setting in the manual, but soon found out the recommended spot was a little conservatively nose heavy, so in the end my CG worked out perfect at 30% MAC with no lead in the nose of the model. When I want to do some 3D, I bolt a small 2oz bit of lead on the tail and it real boogies. Walls, Terminators, Blenders, hovers great too. YS160 has more grunt than a pig on heat !! Final flying weight was 5.6Kg. For you tanks, thats 12.3 Lbs. Compare that too 15 / 16 lb weight with DA or ZDZ, you can imagine it makes a huge difference when 3D'ing low down. Lighter they are, better they fly. I've settled on the Mezlick 18x10 prop. 17x12 ok, but I think the Mez better for the flip n flop. BTW - the neighbours down near the club field think its a great setup too ! Cher Bogan |

78-73.4 = 4.6
(4.6/73.4) x 100 = 6.27% So, the stretched length of the 2x2 is within 6.27% of the full scale dimensions. Have fun guys, I'm thinking about buying one. As a side note, how does the weight and strength compare to a comparable stick-built?? Stephen |
