the krill wing, stab, rudder are much thinner that the emhw, the stabs on the emhw are about 60/40 whereas the krill is about 50/50. the emhw is a 126" wing so it's an all around bigger plane. rudder and ail's seemed to be about the same ratio in size. IMO..i liked the emhw katana better because i felt it flew better slower (ie: 3d) the stab is more in line on the krill also..fwiw

I really like the spring setup!

I am building a super xtra and have been considering that technique, but was wondering how far the plate holding the reciever could potentially move down towards the rudder servo tray???

notorious benny,
The KatanaS is the fourth composite plane I am suspending the Power Expander and Rx in this way. I look at how heavy the whole tray is, and just try to judge how stiff and long the springs should be. I go to my local OSH hardware store and find some springs I think will work. I suspend it fairly stiff, and there is no way, short of in an impact, that the tray can move enough to touch anything.

Cracky,
Well, maiden went well, for about 4 minutes. It developed an exhaust leak after around 4 minutes. It's amazing how crappy a 2-stroke engine runs with an exhaust leak. I landed the plane, and both Teflon couplers between headers and cans were literally burnt away. And no, I did not have an excessive gap between header and pipe. A local friend welded a sleeve onto the cans, that allow them to slide over the headers. There are two slot cut in the sleeves, so a hose clamp tightens them securely around the headers. That was fixed by the following week, but now I didn't get good range check for crap, even with engine NOT running. I repositioned antenna and changed RX, to no avail. I got a base loaded Deans antenna, cut the antenna wire to 10", soldered the connector on, positioned the antenna inside the clear canopy, and now I got good range. I had one flight with it last weekend and all went well. I've been flying with mufflers for a while now, and I have to get used to how silent the engine is with the cans, the prop rips nice though he he.
The plane is very sleek, and I have some dificulty landing it at my place in no wind conditions, it doesn't slow down very well, and I don't want to run chances if loosing the engine on final. Hopefully we'll get some wind this weekend and I can put more time on her. She is extremely responsive on ailerons, doh, look at the size he he.
I am also installing some stiffening to the main gear, there is very little prop clearance and the gear is rather flexy.

I remember watching Kissel's Katana fly and I remembered that it was pretty sleek.....I think this is the first time a GS pilot has asked for wind...haha

It's best at 3D, not precision(in my opinion). Ailerons are huge so it doesn't lock up in a high alpha roll. harriers better inverted. Better Blenders than most extras. loving it so far.
