You're a hundred percent right Jaybird!

Well, between feeding and changing poopy diapers, I've managed to do a little more work on the bird and get a flight or two in.

First off, the 27-10 prop I had on her just was not getting the job done. Spool up could've been measured with a calendar, and pull out of a hover was not overly impressive. A quick call to DA got the suggestion of running a wooden 26-10. I got a Menz 26-10 and drilled it up. At the field, I was pretty impressed with the results. The Edge now hovers at 1/2 throttle, and pulls out of a hover much more strongly.

While at the field, I started noticing the somewhat 'rough' appearance of the rest of the plane. I was very pleased when I showed up at the field with it the first time. No one could tell initially which wing I had built, and which Terry had built. The first easy to notice difference was that the monokote on the existing wing had lost some of its original luster.

To get the luster back, I fell back on some experiences restoring old convertibles. The tops on old Brit convertibles (and Jeeps) have a 'plastic' rear window that fade over time, get cloudy and scratched. To fix this and make the tops look like new, a plastic polish is necessary. For the Carden, I got some Meguiars 'PlastX' polish. The blue polish works very well with a cotton rag. I first polished the surface with the polish on the rag, then buffed it shiny with a clean cotton rag. The difference is pretty hard to tell in pictures, and most people won't even notice it, but I can certainly tell a major difference in the shine. Now the old wing looks just as new and shiny as the new wing I built.

I'm also getting more comfortable with it. I have the setup dialed in better, and the CG is getting closer to the way I want it.....
