GremlinX that should run AFPD fine, that's about what i've got in my desktop, i've actually got only 512 ram and it runs fine, i think G3 is a little more intensive...but your system should run that as well, really depends on the video card i think.

lol I'm on worse than that and G3 works well for me. Ok, my vid card is poor so I don't quite get the FPS, but I love it still.
Mkindrich, I don't think that you can fly online with G2 anymore as the server is now being used for G3. 50%

I had the G2 and went to AFPD for the realistic graphics and the ability of flying 3D set-ups better.
Well, I was able to see the demo of Horizons new sim. at our LHS and I think G3 & AFPD but get on the ball. The Horizon blows them both away with the graphics, you feel like your standing at a flight line. True photo quality. I'm still waiting for the sim to show up so we can test it. |

I have G3, AFPD w/Commander, and Reflex. Here's my take:
G3 - Best overall user interface and "fun" features. I fly the 3D Yak the most AFPD - Good blend of graphics and a good interface. I fly the QQ Yak the most and LOVE it! The Commander is JUNK-it drifts like crazy so I use my G3 controller and like it alot better. Reflex - I think the best graphics and possibly physics, but the worst interface. I don't use it as much as the others due to plane selection. When FSOne comes out I'll get it too. I look at it this way, even if I buy all the sims, it's still less than a 50cc rig when I crash! |

Justin learned on AFP and AFPD. After being on G3 for a while, he says "AFPD is too easy!" I believe learning should be done in stages. If you are learning the stick moves in hover, harrier and KE and rolling harrier, then go straight to AFPD as it will be your best guide in learning those moves. AFPD faithfully reproduces 3d moves. After being able to to T-R, and above mentioned moves well, then invest in G3 and expansion pack 1 (no good planes in G3) and go straight to Cap580. This one feels most natural and comparable to 35% birds. Using this, you will fine tune the stick moves learned on AFPD.
If you are interested in heli, go straight to g3. Reflex may have slight edge on heli physics but the zoom/view management makes it very difficult to fly comfotably when compared to g3 using autozoom. |

I had G2 and got rid of it once I got AFPD. Another good one is Reflex, but in my opinion AFPD is better for planes and Reflex is better for helis. Though I did use Reflex to learn hovering, as it has a nice torque training module targeted at that specifically.

Hi, new to the forum but have read the threads. I've flown G3 at the LHS ...has all the add on planes and have flown a lot of them. I think it's great and about ready to buy ...but hinted heavily to my wife at dinner tonight about Christmas ...so I probably will wait 'til then at least. At least I will be able to fly lunch hours once in a while at the LHS 'til then!
I 'll ask the forum what I've asked some of the local flyers but first a little background ...I flew 2 ch (rud, elev) winch launched sailplanes about 20 years ago and was a decent flyer ...in the few short times I've flown G3 I can reliably fly quite a few of the planes, (Spacewalker and YAK are two of my favorite flyers) do mild aerobatics ...loops, rolls, Immelmans, etc. (not kidding anyone, I've had my share of crashes) and put them back safely on the ground. Now here's the question ...my experience/20 year rememberence tells me the physics and responses seem to be about what they should be in reality ...so is this sim telling me the truth? A couple of the regular local flyers that hang at the shop seem to think so. I'm already sold on the G3 graphics and feel, just want to know if I buy and practice that next spring I could safely take a model to the field and keep it in one piece ...understanding one must not push experience limits too quickly. Your opinions appreciated! Thanks. |

Anyone want to sell me their AFPD or trade for G3 and some addons? I lost my grey cord for my AFPD and I can't buy it because its their anti piracy measure so I need to buy the sim again.
