We've seen more prop bolts break on CF props than wood but I don't sweat the details of why and how. Every so often, maybe after you've had the bolts on and off a total of three times or so, just install new bolts. When you keep fresh bolts installed, you reduce the chances drastically. Reusing (re-stretching) the bolts increases the chance for failure.

I'm going to toss a torque number out there for all you multi bolt hub folks. Works for both the 5 and the 8mm bolts. No song and dance as to why it is what it is, how it was developed, or specifically where it came from, but it's a reputable number obtained from an engine manufacturer with a lot at stake in reliable engines.

40 inch pounds.

Not trying to steal anyones' thunder by any means, just providing a solid working tool for those that want to use it.
