Default Aerotech Kits?

Hey all,

I want your honest opinions on their kits. How is the quality of the wood, glass work, foam cores, and packing in their kits. I'm trying to decide wether I should go with them or pass and go with another mfg. First hand experience only please. I've got a buddy with one that frankly the quality is fairly poor. I trying to find out wether it's a isolated case or if it is common with their kits.

Thanks guys,

Neo Out!!!!!

Neo I am on my 7th aerotech kit. I find them excellent to the best on the market. They are right next to Carden. For the most part the wood is again excellent. Here in Vegas we dont have much in the way of humitity,so most ply and some lite balsa has a tendacy to warp a little. But all that can be worked out as you build. As for flying, that is mostly up to the pilot. They will do as much as you can. Ive seen my aircraft do some reall hairy stuff at the hands of an outstanding piliot(Trent Byrd). SOOO as they say u pays ur moneys and take ur chance. P.S. You can see a couple of my aircraft on aerotechs web site. Let me know if I can be of more help. PPS the custome support is beyond great....

I have no doubt that they fly well, the problems I saw were more with the cores and glasswork. The glass work is what drew the most attention from me It has so many pin holes....and major bubbles, It'll take a lon of work to get it ready for paint. The cores weren't too bad, but they were wavy along the short edges and needed sanded before you could skin them. Not to mention they were far from being identical. Missing parts was another problem, it was hindering the build, but I think they have all now been delivered. Has anyone else seen this in their kits?

Thanks in advance for the replies

I have not built a kit as of yet but I have three 40% Yak kits on there way. 2 for me and 1 for a buddy. I did alot of research prior to buying the kits. Figure we will have about $20,000 in planes once there done. John has always been quick to reply to any questions and people speak very highly of him.

Let me know what you think when you get them if you would Chris. I'm hoping yours are of better quality. I'm looking forward to ordering a kit. I'm just trying to make sure before I do.

My first kit that I ever built was an Aerotech.......I was missing a couple of pieces of wood and had extras of others I didn't need. my glasswork only had a few pinholes, nothing out of ordinary. My cores were fine.

You will need to cut the sheeting edges though.

but you do save hundreds off of a carden.............If you build good you can make up any flaws with little trouble and have a plane worthy of a carden name. A plane is only as good as the builder/flyer.

If it's not right, then John will make it right...Can you absolutely get this from everyone else? We speak from experience as My son is sponsored by Aerotech, and not only flies their planes in competition, but also wins with them. 2005 IMAC Southwest Sportsman Champion. We will be flying two of the new 42% Extras this year.

I had the same issue with my 35% Carden Edge. There isn't a whole lot that can be done about this. The wire just isn't moving as fast at the tip as it does at the root.

Hey Guys, I truly can't comment on ever building one of Aerotechs kits, but what I can say is the Red Bull 40% yak John assembled in Florida for my friend was absolutely flawless, the fit and finish is second to none. I have just received Three 28% Yak ARF's from John this week, All were perfectly in tact, no damage what so ever, and they are truly one of the best ARF's I have ever seen!!
I also might add, John's customer service is great, I have never seen a manufacturer spend so much time with the public as John does, It is a testament to his product!!
