If I purchase the correct size standoffs, shouldnt that keep me from having to modify the engine box? Sorry bout the ignorance, but I really appreciate all the help you guys are providing.

My DA50 came with 2.5 inch stand-offs. Any shorter and the stand-offs will not cover the length of the carb at the rear and you will have to cut a big gaping hole in the fire wall which will most likely severely compromise the strength. I had to shorten the length of the sides by about half an inch in order to get the trim lines on the fuse to match those painted on the cowl (Patty Wagstaff Scheme). If I had to do it again, I would make the engine box as per original dimensions and mount the engine with the given stand-offs. Then get some extra red and black trim and modify the last six inches of the covering to match the cowl ( if you have the PW scheme). My friend's DA came with 3" stand-offs but he had the purple scheme ( straight trim lines) We made the engine box as per original length and mounted the engine with the 3" stand-offs. This left less than 1/4" overlap of cowling over the fuse but it was enough as we epoxied new tabs to the firewall to take the screws for fastening the cowl. With this arrangement, no lead was required to balance the plane even with the two elevator servos in the tail. Hope this helps.

Those sound like good servo choices. Karbonite gears are not reccomended on a gasser. The vibration will kill the gears.

Ok, onto the next section, battery setups, what is the choice here for this servos and system. ALso if anyone has any other pointers in the configuration of the arms and servos, please let me know. BTW where can I get the servo arms at a good price? and what length? Thanks again for all the help.

I was using a 2000 mAh 6.0V NiMH pack on the receiver but would not get more than three flights. I have just switched out to a 2400 mAh Fromeco Peerless Li-ion pack for the receiver with a Smart-fly variable voltage regulator with heat sink. The temperatures here can get really high so I did not want to take a chance with the standard regulators. The ignition is happy on a 1600 mAh NiMH 4 cell pack. The new Hitecs should have come with the heavy duty servo arms. They are working just fine for me.

Thanks for the info on Karbonites Jaybird. Did you come across this info by experience or read it somewhere. I was just about to switch to two karbonites in the tail.

I read it. I just wouldn't take the chance. I have some Karbonite gear servos, and they are really smoth and slop free. It's a shame they can't be used on a big bird.

So do you guys think that the Micracle Swith is a bad idea, I fly out of Miami, and it gets pretty hot here also.

I spoke to Bill at TBM when making the purchase and he also suggested the miracle switch for this size of bird. I plan on using the same batteries in a redundant set up in a 33%er and therefore went for the slight over kill.

Guys, the bord has arrived, is still in the box, but this weekend I will begin taking pictures of all the parts, and the messing up (building) process. So far it looks as if everything is in good condition. I also received all the servos. Regarding the batteries, dont I need a power expander or alike to draw charge from both batteries at once?

No need for a power expander on this size of bird and I use just one receiver pack. You need to watch the weight closely on this one.

If I was to do this setup again, I would be using a powerbox sensor switch and 2 x fromeco 2400mAh packs. On the extra I had I was running 2x 6V 1100mAh packs with dual heavy duty switches. The system worked very well but was heavy. The plane was already heavy enough with a G38 up front. The powerbox sensor switch is two switches and two regs in the one compact unit. The regs are set at 5.9V so Li-po or Li-ion packs are usable. This will give you a dual power system without adding to much extra weight.

Is about $150 here in Oz, so I guess it would be around $100 US.

Actually, that is still quite heavy for a plane of this size, especially compared to true 50cc-size planes like the Airwild 260 or EF Yak, which are larger and can be built down to 15 pounds and only have a 24 ounce wingloading.
