Dcoy, you can build the motor box slightly shorter than the provided length ( depending on which stand offs you get with the DA50) and the cowl can be lined up as is. I was only suggesting this so that nose weight may be avoided in order to balance the model.

As for the wing, I have the older version where the bolts come through the fuse and are not attached using the current system as supplied with your kit. Other than the looks, this system holds up just fine.

Dcoy,
Here are some snaps for your reference. I made a few changes over the two seasons that I have had this bird. Lowered the stab by an inch and a half to reduce the pitch coupling in KE but it was probably not worth it as I feel, it adversely affected the ability to harrier upright. Ended up making a new rudder with a lot more area (about 3.5 " inches longer) at the bottom end. This stabilised the harriers some but really helped in TRs. Braced the tail using 4-40 pull pull cable hardware for peace of mind during KE loops.Lightened up the canapy hatch by first removing the grey covering on the cockpit area and then re applying after. I also have smoke on it right now so I am flying about pound heavier than I should be at. Also removed the elevator servos in the tail and went with a single 5955 TG on a pull pull system to help with the balance( plane was tail heavy). Hope these help. The receiver and its battery are not pictured as they are currently being employed in another model but they go in close to the wing tube.

Billa thanks for the pics, you sure have done alot of work on this plane, I wish I had the bolts on the wing, but hey gotta do what I gotta do. I just recieved the DA50, and pitts muffler, from J-Tech, and other parts I was needing to complete the pull-pull setup. I should begin working on the firewall and engine tomorrow, and also the pull-pull. This thing may actually be finished before the year ends. Once again thanks for all your help, and everyone that has also pitched in.

With this geometry, you will get more up down throw than up if servo atv is mirrored. I would have have made the servo arm parallel with the hinge line.

Hi guys !

I am currently building one of those WM extra 300's as well. Mine will be powered with a DL50 (similar to DA50)

I am a bit puzzled about the CG. In this and other forums it was mentioned the CG should be between 6.25 and 6.5 inch. However in my kit manual it says 3.9 inch (100mm). There is no way that I can reach that without a massive load of lead !! Can this be a typo ? I check the manual
on the WM homepage and that one says 6.5 again......?

Thanks for your help

I'll be getting started on one of these as well, can someone tell me the size of the wing tube ? It's still in the box upstairs, would like to order a CF if they are avail.

The wing tube is 875 mm x 25 mm. exactly.

roalddogge: these engine seems good, and half price of DA!
Did you tried it ?
Did you buy it at ebay?

JuanM:

I did not fly the DL50 yet, but it has been running 2 hours on the stand. Started out of the box after 2-3 flips and has been running very smooth. No bad tendency's at all. Started warm and cold without any problem. It also reacts very nice to carb adjustments. Up till now I am very impressed by this engine. Finishing is very good. Unfortunately my tacho did not work, so have no rpm figures...

Only minor problem is the finishing of the exhaust. Looks strong enough, but not very nice. Also the flange surface to the motor was not completely flat but was easily fixed.

As I am living in China for some years I bought here locally for less than USD 200 ;-)

Hope to get the extra with DL in the air coming weekend.

Please tell us how this engine runs and post some photos, please.

I am thinking to buy one, do you have any link to buy it directly from China?

My manual says CG at 165mm / 6,5 inches.
