Have you dudes ever seen a full scale Katana? Ugliest airplane I've ever seen. Makes a good match for the brutally ugly Rastrepus. I'll look for some photos so save the old THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PHOTO thing!

Biff.. I believe this is what you were refering to.
I heard of taking artistic license.. BUT DAMN..... I think only the front part of the hatch and the cowl holes are releated to the model we know as the katana?!?! This is ONE UGLY ASS PLANE!

Um, actually that (Sleepy's pic) is not the aircraft the model "Katana" is patterned after. The plane we refer to as a Katana is a Terzi T-30 "Katana" and can be found here:

"Have you seen the Rastrepus"
Looks like someone ate his way threw a boneyard and puked up the partially digested parts of several one-off design rejects as a whole plane. t |

Here's something interesting.... EVERYONE knows that the FUNTANA had flutter issues...
CHECK this out... SO did the full size!! NTSB Identification: CHI88DEC02 . The docket is stored on NTSB microfiche number 39193. 14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation Accident occurred Wednesday, May 25, 1988 in PONTIAC, MI Probable Cause Approval Date: 7/9/1990 Aircraft: CHAPPEL RATSREPUS 300, registration: N889HC Injuries: 1 Fatal. THE PILOT WAS TESTING THIS EXPERIMENTAL ACROBATIC AIRCRAFT, MAKING A SECOND LOW PASS OVER THE RUNWAY WHEN A PORTION OF THE LEFT WING SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT, FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF THE LEFT AILERON, 1 1/2 ROLLS TO THE LEFT AND GROUND IMPACT. THE AIRFRAME TOTAL TIME WAS 4 HOURS. ON-SCENE INSPECTION REVEALED NO MASS BALANCE IN THE AILERONS. WITNESSES ESTIMATE SPEEDS AT OR ABOVE 150 MPH. A DESIGNATED ENGINEERING REPRESENTATIVE IN THE AREA OF FLUTTER AND VIBRATION STATED HE HAD RECOMMENDED THAT THE AIRSPEED BE LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 135 MPH UNTIL GROUND VIBRATION TESTS WERE CONDUCTED. The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows: DESTRUCTIVE WING/AILERON FLUTTER IS SUSPECTED, BUT NOT SUFFICIENTLY SUBSTANTIATED THROUGH RESEARCH AND CALCULATIONS TO BE CITED AS THE PROBABLE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT.
