Arf or not to Arf
![]() |
I have just purchased the new comp arf extra 300 sx 2,6m just waiting for it to arrive some time in the future, in the mean time i am looking for wich engine im going to mount in it , i need some help from u guys allready owning the 330L version i dont want to put a too light engine in the front zdz80, bme 110 range, if i have to put in extra weight to balance the cg correct then i might as well put in a heavier engine 3w106 or da100 what is your comments on this.

I have a ZDZ80 in mine, balanced fine. Plenty of power.

There are a few others using a BME 110 with no balance issues as well, give the new BME 115 a look too. Another good option would be the new zdz super 80 with a full length KS or AMT pipe.

I have a DA 100 in my 2.6 330L. Balances with batteries just behind wing spar.

Thanks since the new extra should be completed about 2-4 lbs lighter than the 330L with the new improved finish i could go with the lighter engines and end up with very light airplane .

I'm thinking of a similar 100cc/2.6 size plane for IMAC & a lot of people are going to the zdz or 3we 80 in a 2.3 size.
Less weight is tops if it balances ok. Whats the vibration like in these big singles. The main reason i was looking to go to a 2.6 is to utilize a twin for smoother/quieter running with less vibration. Is this misguided? |

Balancing will not be a problem with anything from an 80 to a 115. If money is not a problem I would go with the BME 115. It is the same weight (or less) than the 80's and has much more power.

I agree with RTK. I've seen and flown his. The power to weight ratio is gawdawful unbalanced. I don't think you could ever run out of thrust on an upline. I know for certain that it doesn't slow down on a vertical while it's still in sight...
