I have owned and flown two (2) H9 Edge 540's. Both were set up with DA 100's and JR 84, 86 and 8711 sevos. The 8711 on the Rudder. I literaly wore out one of them over a period of about a year.
It's true, the composit gear is delicate. You should reinforce the top and bottom of the motor box. Looking back on it, and having now flown a 33% with the new DA85, I beleive the 85 would be a better choice. I beleive the H9 Edge is a very good plane. I had a lot of fun with mine. I do however, beleive H9's new Sukhoi is a much better performer.
The Edge may be a stonger and more durable plane. I have already experienced some maint. issues with the Sukhoi most likely due to vibration.

most people that I have talked with have a DA 85 on them because that was all that was out there at the time , they said it was a little heavey and the plug caps stick out from the cowl . with the DA 85 that is out , the same people say that it would work much better for this model , plus everythign will fit in the cowl , that is why I am goign with the 85 . I hear from the grape vine that DL will have a 85 in spring 09 ????? untilll than I am doing what I can with out power plant . so far I have the cockpit done . and all recoverd . tail is almost done with servos in .

Would a DL 100 fit in cowl completely? Also. looking at the HD Power 9660 servos for this plane. 270oz torque. SHould be plenty I think?

If it's like the DA-100, then the DL-100 would fit, but you'll have to cut holes for the spark plugs caps.

I have a DA 85 on mine and that is plenty of power for the plane. As for those servo's for the price I would just buy Hitec 7955's for $10 more. For me it is not worth the small difference in price to use an off brand servo.

12% up flaperon?
Are upright harriers solid before or just better with the flaperon?

First post here on Flying Giants
Anyone still flying these planes(Hanger 9 33% Edge)as I have one thats been in moth balls for the last 3 years.Going to pull it out and start flying it again this season as I find the electrics planes can only do so much for me.I will be putting new servo's into it but still have the Zenoah GT80 twin hanging up front. The plane was a great aerobatic plane for me as I wasn't much into the that 3-D stuff just scaled aerobatic. After killing a few electrics trying to learn how to do it,maybe I can do(LOL try)some basic 3-D stuff with the setup(motor & plane) and see what happens. Not in the possition to go out and by all new stuff and try it but I had fun before with it.Anything to look for after these past few years or is this still a good airframe to fly.I know the plane is in great shape as well as the motor but was wondering if there were any items that came to light as in being a possable sore spot to keep an eye on.Got the plane when it first came out and put the GT 80 up front from the get go as that was what was called for in the manual at that time.Did have the problem of the gear spliting like a few of the others I've read about.Like this one better than the 33% Hanger 9 Suhkoi(yellow & red)as I found that the edge was a bit lighter on the wing which made it more fun for me.Did the heavy metal WWII birds for so many years and tired of them so looking forward to getting back to having fun with the big gassers with the light weight(no not a cub, been there done that as well as WWI).Anyways was just wonder who still flys these or am I going to be the old man on the block with a 4 year old plane and motor. Thanks,John
