If this is your first time doing gas I would go with a 50cc or if you feel comfortable in your flying i would go with even a 33-35%er . . . I would recommend that if youve only been flying a couple of years then go with the 50cc. This year is my 3rd year of flying and i fly a 34%er . . .

i also forgot about the aero-works 30% QB yak 54. I would recomend that because its a Quick Build (QB), and will be alot easier to build for a first giant scale. IMO.

The idea behind the best first gasser is to have something that flies easily. The biggest factor in ease of flight is wingloading. Therefore, look for pretty much any plane with 1300 1500 squares on the wing, 82-87" wingspan, and a flying weight of 16.5 pounds or less (ideal weight is 14.5 to 15 pounds). Just because the H9 260 and GP Yak are made by big name manufacturers and are cheap does not make them the best first gasser. Trust me, a lighter-flying plane is much more fun to fly, not to mention easier.

Bodywerks - Im not saying something because its a good price. I have flown the hanger 9 260 and great planes yak. I know how they fly and its not difficult at all. Im not posting crap from what ever comes from my head. I recomend them because they fly very good . I'm telling him from experience, not just posting it because i have seen a add in a magazine on the plane.

I wasn't knocking your post Tony, and I know they fly fine - I flew giant scale planes back when the G-62 was the only giant scale engine available, and the planes were over-built and over weight. But I have also seen several 1100 sq.in., 15 pound planes snap out at the most inopportune times, largely due in part to their high wingloading (two of them were the GP patty Extra and the H9 Extra 260). It is a well known fact that lower wingloading planes fly easier and better. Therefore, a BME Yak, for example, with a 24.5 ounce wingloading, not to mention considerably larger, is going to be more stable, overall, than a GP Yak with a 30.5 ounce wingloading.
Like I said, it is only my opinion - no one is right or wrong here. I am just presenting some food for thought. I have flown a wide variety of planes and I will choose lighter-loaded planes over high wingloading planes any day.

The Aero Works Yak 54 QB is one great flying airplane . It is very forgiving and the DA50 pulls it around with authority. Plus don't forget about the QB aspect, if you have everything for the plane it will go together in 3 nights . Then there is the Aero Works Extra 260 QB also.

In that case... the best first gasser is ONE YOu CAN AFFORD TO CRASH.

Thats the thing slick... with these planes.. ya never know when its going to die.. so if you you use every last penny getting a plane together.. and it dies... it leaves you hi and dry for quite some time.

My advice.. look for a good used plane almost RTF..
1) you know it flys
2) most of the bugs have been worked out
3) it should save you money
4) it has its first scratch already so you fly it harder!
my 1.275 cents!

A smaller gasser - then consider the QQ 73" Yak or similar and put a 26-35cc in it.
