Why did the competition stop? Or does it still happen under some other name?

The TOC could never be replaced. You had to experience it to understand, it was majical, like Disney for a 6 year old. It was the total package in it's prime, the planes that were unobtainable by anyone outside the TOC, the inovation involved in making a plane competitive there. You couldn't just go by the latest and greatest and be competitive, it took being 2 steps ahead of everyone else. Also being located in Vegas, having Bill Bennet as "the Man" (very interesting guy), it was amazing. The Masters is incredible, Tucson is great, a Bill Bennet Memorial Contest would be terriffic, btu there will never be another TOC. And for those who "get it" using the term TOC for anything else is a disgrace (glad to see they changed the name, although for different reasons).
Mr. Bennett and all those involved in making the TOC what it was deserve a tip of the hat every tiem we go out and fly the planes we have now. Without their forward thinking, the face of aeromodeling would look a lot different. Kev |
