I was thinking about a AW QB extra 260 thats a 35% so i would put in a DA100, but then i was thinking is that a good plane for doing imac and 3ding competion? Also how about the price? Or is it worte more if i get a 40% for imac and good 3ding with a DA150? Which planes fly good in the competitons best in both the 35% and 40% class? I really like the AW 35% QB extra 260!

Thats a good question that more than once has been asked by all of us, maybe to a friend or pondering, "Do I really need to have such a big plane?"
The thing is, I remember when a 33% Aero-works plane was huge to me and like most others "The"plane to have" Now there are so many great planes to choose from and everything is so much better, not only servos but Radios and ALL the accessories. And it is known by most that bigger flys better,........most of the time. Then you see the 260 video of their (AW) 35% and it's all you could ask for, and most of the 35% class all fly great. Example TSO When most in the free style choose to fly 35% planes because of the conditions and they held up to their big brothers and performed better than expected, and put on a great show. Not to mention winning the whole thing, sure Mark was flying it but could he have done better than first with a 40%?....can't do better than first. But I still ask the question to myself today, I have two in the 40% class and two in the 35% class, which one do I like the best?.......One one day it's the 40%, the next the 35%. So it comes down to what do your finances let you do, because really you "DON'T NEED" to have a 40% to compete or have a great time flying. So is it "KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES?" I think so. My opinion you like the AW 26O QB? Get it, looks like one sweet ride to me. Chuck |

A 35% can keep up in freestyle, and in fact excel a lot of the time. They're quicker, more powerful, and disposable (so you can really get it down and fly HARD in a freestyle). Before anyone grabs my nuts -- yes, a 35% arf IS disposable at the level of competition, not so much for the money but for the time you put into setting it up and getting it to fly right. It takes much less time to set up a plane for freestyle than it does for IMAC/pattern.
That being said, how many 35%'ers did you see flying the IMAC schedules at Tuscon? However, if you're not serious into competition, a 35% is still a very viable and competitive choice. That Aeroworks 260 sounds good. Instead of scraping together money for a cheap 40% get good equipment in the 35% and fly the snot out of it Or, don't listen to me at all. It doesn't really matter

Best bang for buck is 35% class, using 100-cc motor of choice. right now my son is flying Quique YAK with DA-100...unlimited performance...all the moves in book...parts available...since plane is light, can get by with less servos and total cost to rig....move up to 40% later on if so inclined...., V.

More servos, bigger batts, bigger engine, oh and did anyone mention that you may need a trailer for that 40% bird?
I'd stick with 35%.......Just fly a little bit closer, and it'll present no worse than a 40%

From what all the guys tell me the 35% planes have the better power to weight ratio over most 40%ers. Good luck with your choice and keep us posted.
