Really hate calling an ARF assembly a "build", but when you start modifying and detailing it almost seems like that's what they are...in any case, they do become projects! I've always enjoyed putting some scale detail on my planes.
Started doing this with small 47" aerobats and have continued into my various 35% birds. As you can see, aerobatic planes have a place in my heart .Here's a couple....will post more later. These two are both from 3DHS. The blue is their old 47" Extra SHP (electric) and the red is their 87" Extra (50cc). I've had 2 of each. Still have the 2nd blue one, although it doesn't look as pretty now!

I bought an H9 Pulse 125 ARF in the fall of 2011 as my second plane. The manual confidently stated that I could be flying after ten hours of assembly time. After 100+ hours and 600+ photos on the "assembly" I have no problem referring to it as a build.

Here's another one of my little 3DHS electrics. It started life as a basic Yak 45, but I couldn't leave it alone and had a spare canopy from my 1st Extra...so it became a single seat version....aka "Super Yak"

Here's one of my favorites....started out as a 3DHS 103" Extra 330SC. I wished to copy my friend Mike Goulian's Castrol Aviator scheme, including doing the aileron counterbalances, so the wingspan ended up 105". Powered by a DA120 on cans or pipes (it's seen both), it's a joy to fly whether IMAC or 3D.....just a superb flying airplane!

Thanks!!
And for my last project here's some shots of my Hangar 9 Beast. Really fun plane to fly (DA120 again), but with a bad back, I found assembly/disassemble tedious and time-consuming. After having it for 2 seasons, I found I flew my 3DHS Extra 50:1 over the Beast. So ended up stripping the gear out and selling it. Hopefully it will fly many hours with it happy new owner .Really a sad day when Bryan Jensen crashed in his. I had just talked with him a few weeks prior about his instrument panel. RIP Bryan. |

Those all look fantastic!
I am new detailing a cockpit, my best effort is almost complete. Where do you source materials? What are you using, is it all from scratch? |

Thanks! There's a mix of stuff shown. The smaller electrics were photos printed on glossy paper and glued to foam. So was the Beast panel, except balsa used instead of foam. The Extra panel was purchased used and modified to fit.
On the smaller planes I was doing the virtual cockpit thing with my own photos. Have decided it's really not needed on the larger ones. In my opinion, a good looking pilot bust (RedAeroRC makes THE best!) and nice panel look fine. For my Krill that I'm working on now, I'm building a panel using instruments from IFlyTailies.com. Nice stuff. Earle |
