I think I will have to make plans to see some of the racing next year. I use to go to Madera every year when I was a kid. I would love to run into Tom Easterday again - he used to have an airshow team that I was on, but he got "attacked" by the racing bug and took it full-time. I just got bit by the speed bug, too, with a 130 MPH (straight line speed - pushin' almost 150 out of a dive) Speed400 pylon racer - 28" wingspan, 14 ounces AUW, and a 360 watt powersystem (that's over 400watts/pound!!!)!

Liger!....
Had to make another comment about my scary takeoff description...this particular airplane is an extreme example of our racing. The F-1, F-1GT, Bipes, T-6s, and most of the Unlimiteds are pretty well behaved and the F-1 and F-1GT racers in particular fly very well and are relatively easy to takeoff and land...at least until the racing adrenaline kicks in! I didn't want to leave everybody with the impression that all of the racers were as challenging as what I described. It's the exception to the rule, a 280cc engine, with a 24x27 prop, on a 42 pound airplane...physics just won't be denied on that deal and it's a bit challenging. That said, I think most of the good aerobatic guys could manage it with some coaching...the other aircraft, piece of cake! KennyMac |

It sucks that this is the same weekend as the Shootout. It looks like a blast.
Tim, is the warbird race at speedworld also this same weekend? Last edited by Rolling Thunder; 10-20-2006 at 03:32 AM. |

Guys, good luck to all headed to Parker. Again, PLEASE don't schedule Parker and Tucson the same weekend next year!!
So to honor those who go a little faster and turn a bit tighter on the course, the Flying Giants will have special awards under your avatar. Winners of Gold races get FG KING OF SPEED graphics to schlep on your speedster. We'd also REALLY like to have you guys take a bunch of pictures and do a write up for our Leading Edge (center of home page)! All racing needs is a bit more press to really get the ball rolling. Thanks for spreading the good word guys! Good luck, safe racing and just GO KICK ASS!!!

We love those Desert Hawks....you guys are great.
Bif....we hope to coordinate with Dave Johnson and the TAS folks to get the race/shootout on consecutive weekends next year. That way the folks that make the journey out here might stay a while and catch both shows...maybe we can even do some cross promotion! We sure don't want any conflict. We also try to avoid the I-Hobby show which will be on the West coast next year, but that might be more difficult as October is getting crowded. KMac |

Thanks Kenny, I know the schedule is a bitch sometimes. As far as cross promotion, we'll be doing Rantoul, Ashtabula and Parker. Come hell or high water I will be at Rantoul. Would be great to watch Parker too. Keep the Demons in line dude and good luck!!
