Default Photo resizing program

Hi Guys,

The attached zip file contains the Microsoft "Resize" powertoy for Windows. This handy utility will add a right click option menu to directly resize any photos you might have. If you're pretty good with picture posting already, know that this app removes alot of clarity, but otherwise works pretty good for most photos.

The application can also be found on this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Enjoy.

I like IrfanView for image processing, does a nice single or batch conversion and/or rename. No frills.

Hi Madmax,
This application is not compatible with windows Vista.
I presume the pics for the forums to be between 100 - 70 KB. If so, i can use other applications eg Adobe PS, MS office photo editor, etc to achive the desired size.

Microsoft hasn't released powertoys for vista, however there is a tweak that people are doing to make it work with vista:

FIRST
RECOGNIZE THAT YOU'RE FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

SECOND
Get the tweakui.exe file.
a. You might already have it if you upgraded from XP and used Tweak UI in the good old days. If so, just move the file to anywhere but the C:\Windows\System32 directory ... Vista really doesn't like tweakui there. I put it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft.
b. If you don't have the tweakui.exe file already, you have two options:
i. Get it from a computer that has it. Simply copy the file (i.e. to a thumb drive or over a network) and slap it anywhere on your Vista machine (except the C:\Windows\System32 directory).
ii. There's a rumor that you can extract tweakui.exe from the installation file available at the XP PowerToys site using WinRAR or some other such archiving program. I haven't tried this, though, but it might be worth trying?

THIRD
Set the tweakui.exe file to run with XP compatability.
a. Right-click the file -> Properties -> Compatability tab -> check the CheckBox next to "Run this program in compatability mode for:" [Windows XP (Service Pack 2) -> Click OK.

FOURTH
Run tweakui.exe as an Administrator
a. Right-click the file -> Run as administrator -> Continue -> Run program
b. TweakUI might popup behind other windows (it always does for me!)
b. If you don't run as administrator, UAC will thwart your every change!
c. If you have UAC turned off, you don't need to run as administrator. You also won't have to click "Continue" in step (a) above.

You can use other programs to resize, the current limits on jpegs are: 488.3kb and 1000x1200

Thanx for a rather detailed fix to make that app. work in vista. I think i may screw up my vista, instead i'll use corel or adobe to get the job done.

Will try that if this one doesn't stay working right. I hope everyone keeps their images in good sizes as we wouldn't want to clog the server. If that's possible as there's tons of pics as it is and so far so good.
