Going through a ton of pics. Sorry so many came out cruddy, but it was only half my fault. The light sucked hard for any telephoto shots, and then there is the fact that I have no idea what I am doing... those two things combined into some less than stellar shots.

Of note...check out the SFG (side force generator) setup on Mark's Extra. Did it make a difference? Ask him and Animal Jesky as they both spent some serious stick time flying on knife edge for minutes straight. This was after hours and it was really getting dark. I wanted to use a fill flash as I was so close I could taste the exhaust (might be good with coffee... but by itself... not the best taste). Because I am such a gentleman and the fact that Mark would kick my butt, I refrained from flashing away and taking his eye off of his baby for even one second.

I spoke to most of the pilots and one in the best mood was Chip Hyde. He was extremely happy with how he flew overall and loved the electric setup he was using. He could not stop talking about it and all the advantages it had... just need another year or two to make those darn batteries lighter!!!! If he continues to keep the vibe he is going to have something to say at Tucson. Just a feeling, but I am going to stick with it. He seems hungry, but not consumed to the point of it being detrimental. That may be a lethal combination.

Mark Leseberg was quite focused so I left him alone. I thought of going up to him a few times but out of respect for the competitor in him I left him to go through his routine over and over. If I looked his direction odds were 50-50 he was talking to Tony or had a plane in hand going through the routine. He is going to be hungry in Tucson as well.

Sean McMurtry is a personal friend so I am a bit biased when I say he was definitely one of the most fun to talk to. He can seem shy and quiet, and he is to some extent but he is a pretty fierce competitor as well. He just does it his way! He loves the new plane and only had a hand full of flights on it before the contest. Not even dialed in, and you know how angry that makes a pattern flyer don't you? His plane is due out in production next spring, but until then Sean is going to be seeing what it can do.

Then there is Bob Sadler. When he was not shooing me back out of the way from obscuring the view of the judges, he was using his quick wit and sense of humor to keep up the vibe. He did one heck of a job and although we don't want or need two of him it just wouldn't be the same without him. Fantastic job Biffy.

All I can say is Tucson better be sunny!

Here are a few more from the event on Saturday.
Good times.

George Hicks left a little message for Mark Leseberg on the wing... if you need help figuring it out, let me know.
