Dude,
You ruined it! That was my pic and I was going to post it here tonight...lucky you aussies are on my cool list or I would be angry... No, Marcus Kim did this on purpose after Bob 'Biff' Sadler kept saying to him....lower, lower, touch it, touch it.... and he did. Somehow I got really really lucky and the shutter happend to go off...and magic happened.More to come later. Just got home and off to bed now. --james |

My Man Tank did a great job snapping photos and handing out decals....
He is a genuine great guy and photographer...an asset to the Flying Giants staff! Mr Bob Sadler is a great guy too.....you couldnt get a better announcer if you searched the whole country! ![]() If any of you get the chance, at the next event, stop both of them and give them thanks for all their hard work to make this a great site! Definately a "Class Act" ![]() Blair

John ...er TANK... great to meet you too, as well as SukoiKid.
You have been posting some great shots. Triple Tree is very photogenic. Only downside is the weather moved in on Saturday with some wind and quite a bit overcast. Made for some poor photos because there was not enough light to capture the magic that was happening, but there are a few gems in my bag that will appear here tonight. Now the flying of the sequences was great to watch, but unless you had the patterns in front of you, and unless you fly IMAC yourself it is hard to understand just how hard a job they had with this one. The patterns were tough tough tough. I am no judge so I can't say who did great as compared to the other great pilots there...which means I won't try lest I sound like the idiot under-edu-mu-cated hick from Oklahoma that I am. QuiQue was fabulous and it was clear he was the winner according to some pilots I talked to before the rounds were complete. His practice and persistence really pays off well and he is such a class act. Everyone there was fantastic and very open to questions, though I tried to not bother them too much between rounds because you could tell the weight of the event was on their minds as they walked through sequences over and over and over between rounds. There were a lot of gears turning in their heads throughout. If you looked down the flight line at any time there was someone holding a plane high overhead and going through the flight again and again. As for crowd pleasers, QuiQue really got everyone churned up when he let loose with the smoke and torque rolled the plane into it so low there was no way even he could see exactly where that plane was hidden. Leseberg was just ... can I say this... OFF THE FRIGGIN' HOOK with his freestlye. Have to admit I jumped like a girl once as his high speed, straight at me then turn, whip around to insane rolling loops. What can I say about that? I am still cleaning my shorts (maybe I should just throw them out). Noll... man, what a rolling freak. He has the music for his style of flying so dialed in he could have easily slid into 1st at any time. That freestlye of his was definitely timed to perfection and executed as such. Shulman... he should just change his name to Showman. What a crowd pleaser he is!! He flew his comp-arf like it was a foamy. I kid yee not. Slow rollers, inverted harrier to roller, the whole bit, then he flew off low only to yank it high, spin around and come right back low and inverted. I have plenty more to say, and these gents deserve so much credit for pulling it off yet again. I know why they call it the Masters!!! Last edited by MetHerInBaghdad; 10-09-2006 at 11:36 AM. |

Awesome event!!!
I was in awe of the electric setup flown by Bernd Beschorner. He was not lacking for power at all, and I would say that the performance of his model was as good as any at the event. I also think Bernd had the best coreographed free-style routine, he flew to the music better than anyone, IMHO. He did not have as much 3D stuff mixed in, however, and I think that may have cost him a few points. Chip also had an electric setup, but it was actually a little louder than some of the IC engine planes, IMHO. Still quiet, but it did actually sound like some of the IC powered planes. I thought Sebastiano Silvestri's plane was quieter than Chip's in the air. I applaud the effort by Pat Hartness to have a world class sport aerobatics event with an emphasis on noise reduction. These planes were VERY quiet. And, the majority of the products used to meet the sound rule already exist. All off-the-shelf stuff. The performance did not seem to suffer at all, these planes were rockets!! Of course, it seems everytime I go to Triple Tree with my son, Matt, he ends up having something special happen to him. At Joe Nall, Mark Leseburg let Matt wiggle the sticks some at center stage. This time, Mark had Matt call for him during his last freestyle (which Mark won that round, BTW). Mark is a class act!!! You know, Beavis, if you keep doing something like this, Matt will keep following you around like a puppy!!! Bob R.

Concerning the Pletti powered Raven. 15kw....My god. How much power do we need? Assuming this plane weighs 40lbs, that makes for 375 watts per pound! 200 watts per pound will make your plane a rocket. You really only need about 150 watts per pound for a good 3Der. I'm guessing Bernd never got much above half throttle for the entire weekend.

Bernd told me that he had it "dialed back" to about 80%, so you are right, he was not going full throttle. I think he said it was running at about 280 amps, but is capable of 320 amps. Bob R.
