I was wondering what prop works well with the YS 160 DZ with this plane. I have had the 160 mounted to a OMP 80 inch profile and its just to much of a shaker for the lite profile frame so i will plan on using the motor on my 260. Any comments welcomed ??

Probably will do best with an 18X8 or maybe a 20X6 if you can find one. They say up to an 18X10 wide blade, but the pitch speed might be a tad too high.

Let me know how it goes. I think this is THE perfect engine for this plane with the right prop. You want the R's to be 8,000 - 8500. If you can find a 20X6 that will do it, I think that would be your prop of choice for 3D...

I have the exact same setup as you, and I am now running a Bolly 19x8 Carbon Prop.....Ballistic!
BR, Mark PS: I posted on RCU (H9 Extra 206) thread, around page 96. Plenty of pictures of my plane/engine. |

Flying one with a moki 180 and it sweet. Think the YS 160 should be fine, those things have loads of power. Think big bore glow is a better option in this particular airframe than 40-50cc gasers.

Ok thanks guys , i have tried a lot of different props on this motor on a profile and like a said in other posts this motor is not good for the lite profile frame so i think it will be much better on the extra 260. Are you guys running the 160 using a Hyde mount or what mount?? It does have some vibration issues at idle and up threw the rpm range . I tried a new Evolution wood prop in the 19/8 size and was only taching at around 7500 . This reading was with only about 1 hour run time on the motor. I am running Wildcat Heli fuel 30% nitro 23% oil and this is the fuel i run in all my Saitos as well as my YS 110 , 140 and it seems to work well.

I am using the Chip Hyde ARIA Mount with the intregal nose ring.
This engine is a fire breathing dragon for its size and weight, so I beleive the ARIA mount is a great thing to have. I would NEVER run a wood prop on a 4c of this size, as I have experienced wood props explode from the detonation on starting of running out of fuel. The Bolly carbon is really the best prop to run on the 160 Dingo. I have tried them all, and I like the Bolly Carbon the best, but they are very pricey. The carbon props also smooth out the vibration better than light wood props. I have been told by many pattern flyers that the best exhaust system is the escomposites carbon tuned pipe, however I dont know if it would work inside the H9 Extra 260. BR, Mark |

Thanks does the Bolly prop still come with a dull finish or are they coated with a finish coat.?? I have only had one before and it was unfinished and the business i got it from said you have to coat it yourself , i have never been real impressed with a prop of this cost coming unfinished . I usually dont run wood either on my four strokes but i just thought i would try the wood once and i wasted 23 dollars on that evolution wood prop , it is made specific for gassers and i should have known better after running YS motors for many years with great success using APC or similar props.

If anything the Mezj should out-turn the bolly, RPM-wise. Also, you don't need to "finish" a Bolly prop - you can run them just how they come. IMO, they look like they are all business with that dull finish, and you aren't going to notice it once the engine's running!
